Ullrich happy to retire with a Tour win
In his last UCI race of the season yesterday in Nürnberg, Jan Ullrich revealed that had he won
the Tour de France this year, it could have been

DPA. "Then I would have achieved everything in life. Actually I am completely satisfied that I
was second - that means I

<snip>
How old is Ullrich? 28 or 29?
I've known that he doesn't really have the killer instinct, but this is surprising.
The Cannibal, he's not.
I'll give him credit for one thing - he's a nice guy and a good person,
but

Not only that, but he is honest. I would not make too much else out of this. He is expressing how
he felt at that moment. It does not sound like he is speaking from years of reflection. It also
sounds like winning the Tour (in
1997) was very bittersweet. After all, it made his career at the same time is seemed to set him on
the road to a kind of cycling purgatory. I can really see hoe he would feel that way after a
career like the one he has had.
The Tour in 2004 could be the most explosive in many many years. If all goes right, this will
finally be the true clash of the titans that has yet to happen between Armstrong and Ullrich.
Especially if Ullrich is back on Telekom/T-Mobile with a kick-ass squad to support him.
And especially if Ullrich stays committed this off season and starts training 4 weeks or more before
Xmas season and all those hams, turkeys, beers and sausages.
But, Jan's a veggie now? Cannot get fat fat and be vegetarian if you ride your bike at least 200
miles/week. Impossible pretty much. You'll be losing weight if you have too much fat (over 10% by
body weight).

respective best race fitness and preparation.
