  1. First off, there are good trolls and then there are bad trolls. In case any
of you are in the dark about the difference, Ed Dolan is a good troll and
the other Ed is a bad troll. We all know what bad trolls do as we have had a
recent experience of it. It may be that ARBR will never quite recover from
    it.

I used to love an unmoderated forum such as ARBR when everyone was more or
less civilized, but the recent outrages have caused me to completely revise
my thinking. I am now very much in favor of moderated forums. Unmoderated
forums will not work when a single vandal can destroy it with impunity. No
one will defend the group and so the worse elements take over. A moderated
forum will prevent this from happening. In fact, a good moderated forum will
never even let it get started. Enuf about bad trolls!

Since unmoderated forums really don't work very well, we should not take
them so seriously. They are more like playgrounds than anything else. A good
troll will play in the playground observing all the rules of proper behavior
and proper posting so that at least no harm is done to the group.

So what is a good troll like me doing here on ARBR? I am tweaking the group
more or less and I hope bringing joy and happiness to one and all. All
newsgroups get bogged down in trivia and boredom. Good trolls are stimulants
which keep everyone on their toes. A dumb troll is an abomination, but a
smart troll is a treasure that is to be appreciated above all else. Every
newsgroup deserves at least one GOOD troll. Sometimes the troll is the only
thing holding the group together if truth be told.

After you have been on a group for awhile the same old things get said over
and over. A good troll lights a spark under the group and gets them off on
tangents that would never otherwise occur to them. One thing leads to
another and before you know it we can be discussing Eskimo culture versus
Norse culture in the Middle Ages. Is this bad? No, I maintain that it is
good. It prevents terminal boredom, the besetting sin of all newsgroups.

A good troll keeps everyone human (and humble) including the troll himself.
A newsgroup that is composed solely of resident experts rendering their
judgments on this and that is deadly. A bit of that goes a long ways. We
all want to be human beings first and foremost with distinctive
personalities above all else. A good troll permits that to take place where
otherwise everyone would be anonymous and basically strangers to one
another. What a waste of time that would be.

Yes, the subject is trolls. What do you think of them? Are they all good or
are they all bad. Or is there some good along with the bad. Do you really
want to be on a group where there is never a troll around to say interesting
things and to amuse you. We are mostly elderly men here on ARBR but does
that mean we cannot have some fun with one another.

No, just trolls. But thanks for confirming you are one, it saves a
lot of time in the end.

Personally I don't believe that there are such things as trolls.People just made that up so that when they can't win the argument they can accuse the other person of being less than human.Once that person is viewed as less than human the attack can begin.
It is good that people will moderate themselves and allow as many who believe in free speech to post here on ARBR.I don"t need someone telling me what or what not to say, even if he says it in ryhme.

Comments from the Peanut Gallery are not appreciated. Furthermore, it is a
waste of time to waste words on Guy Chapman of England - and so I won't!

Nget has got that right about 95% of all so-called trolls. Nevertheless, we
have all had to learn a hard lesson that there are such creatures as true,
destructive trolls. They can easily take down a newsgroup by acting like
criminal scum and there is not much an unmoderated newsgroup can or will do
about it. Thankfully, this type of troll is rare. Most trolls are good
natured like me and only want the group to prosper and prevail. It is
passing strange to me that some are unable to make these most elementary
discriminations. To say that there are just trolls and let it go at that is
    just plain wrong.

Mazzoleni was another example of a good troll that this newsgroup was
blessed with for a time. But, unlike me, he was a one note Johnny.

I think the main criticism I have noted of me over the years is that I get
off topic a lot. But surely most others here are blathering on and on about
recumbents and I do not need to add to it. I provide some relief from that,
even if it is only comic relief.

If I'm to be a liberal, I guess

In fact I think I'll cry tonight, perhaps,
    As I react to nugget's sloppy slaps;
I may succumb to such intense duress
That my reactions I cannot suppress.

At first a little giggle will slip by,
And then I'll start to laugh until I cry.
I'll scream, if folks complain because I bawl,
"Don't bug me! I'm a librul, after all..."

We libruls always seem to verge on tears,
Because some redneck drinks domestic beers,
Offending some poor Muslim in Tehran,
Or bears eat salmon on their way to spawn.

    But wait a second, guys, I can't do this;
Don't libruls have to sit to take a [censored]? [NOTE 2]

So Mr. (or Ms) Nget might be my friend...

Must I indulge my (DEEPLY!) hidden yen

Or should I get a chopper and a truck
And learn to swagger like a Texas buck?
To chew tobacco, spittin' on the street,
And snidely sneer at everyone I meet?

I think instead I'll just keep being me,
And let the TROLL's cheerleader be what he
(Or she or it) might be behind his screen,
    Anonymous and mousy, barely seen...

NOTE 1: Pleas reefer to you're favorite TROLL fore
    spelling, spacingand punctuation corrections...
or do you perhaps, like most other folks here,
really not appreciate that kind of [censored]?[NOTE 2]

NOTE 2: Please note that since my last post was deemed
offensive, presumably because of the single word
    "fertilize", these references to "excrement"
have been meticulously toned down, per request.

Queerly, querulously, quarrelsomely queried the TROLL:

    Quoted message said:

Yes, the subject is trolls. What do you think of them?
Are they all good or are they all bad. ['.' sic; S/B '?' ?]

Yes, the subject is TROLLS; we agree on that point.
That's precisely why noses are SO(!) out of joint,
'Cuz it should be recumbents, whatever TROLLS say,
And that's why folks keep telling 'em: PLEASE GO AWAY!

For the verb, a dyslexic picks 'era', which we
Would call 'are' - present tense, plural form of 'to be'.
For the predicate, let's just use TROLLS once again:
TROLLS are TROLLS! Hallelujah, it's true, and AMEN!

In the fast-failing hope that this TROLL might shape up,
And we'll clean all the rugs once we've housetrained this pup,
I'll keep posting in rhyme, once each evening or so,
Unless readers email me to just let it go.

Number Five on the list? (though it's clearly a waste):
Snidely harping on typos shows very poor taste.
Plus you missed 'mistate', dumbbell. (I trust I can say
Snotty names that the TROLL seems to think are okay.)

Nget most likely does not like poetry period. Most Americans don't as you
well know. It strikes them as an affectation, most especially on a
newsgroup. So what else is new?

By the way, Nget was writing newsgroup-ese. It is a kind of shorthand way of
saying things. And it was damn clever of him to metamorphose your LoGo to No
Go. Why can't I ever think of clever things like that. I could have used it
in connection with all your urinary and scatological references.

I like Nget because he stood up against the criminal troll . He was one of

You have [censored] and [censored] on the brain I am afraid and it ruins your verse. A
single allusion to those bodily functions is enough to dirty the mind of the
reader. I am surprised you do not know that - or is that your intention. Sex
is another subject that the poet should stay away from as it too soils the
    mind of the reader.

Writing isn't your forte; you don't belong here

If you weren't such a sic-ophant. Please get a hunch
That this TROLL doesn't like anyone on this group.
If you cross him you'll see just how cruelly he'll swoop.

    He was singing my praises as late as last week;
Now I'm sensing a shift in the tone of TROLL-speak.
Have I changed? No, I haven't, and neither has he,
But he says he likes YOU, and no longer likes ME.
    He's a TROLL, only nice when his bottom gets kissed;
Make him mad and you'll see that this TROLL does exist!

As borne out by the TROLL's very words, maybe? Yes!:

    Quoted message said:

... it is obvious what I think and that I do not much
care what anyone else thinks if they differ from what
I think... you will discover what a troll can do.

    OPEN NOTE TO THE TROLL:

Oh, no thanks, Mr. TROLL, we've seen more than enough
Of your ill-mannered postings, malevolent, rough,
Constant whining... Oh, dear, you've been victimized... GEE!
Did you like it, I wonder? Well, neither do we!

    Quoted message said:

So he dangles a small preposition or two,
But rewrites all the rules (or at least tweaks a few),
To conform to his failings, insisting he's "Great",
That he's literate, smart - but it's slightly too late...

In the archives at ARBR it's easy to see
That the TROLL picks at nits, little errors which he
Has himself far exceeded by count and in scope.
Does it matter? It doesn't, except to a dope.

    Sigh-hh-hh... what's become of:

    Quoted message said:

A good troll... observing all the rules of proper behavior
and proper posting... I hope bringing joy and happiness to
one and all... so that at least no harm is done to the
group... Most trolls... only want the group to prosper and
    prevail.

Perhaps the TROLL is seesawing back now to:

    Quoted message said:

I don't give a [censored] about any of you... [censored] and [censored]
heads ... That is all newsgroups are full of... I leave you
to yourselves. You are all a bunch of crazy [censored] who
deserve one another. May you all [BLEEP!] one another until
kingdom come... there are just not enough intelligent folks
here for me... Cowards and idiots! That is what ARBR is full
    of...

That's about as likely to build confidence in the 'goodness'
    of a TROLL as:

    Quoted message said:

I also have never been obscene... just because I believe
[NAME WITHELD TO PROTECT THE (RELATIVELY) INNOCENT] is a
[BLEEP!-ing] [censored] is not an obscenity...

Some political putzes use 'spin' -
"Folks, my heart is pure GOLD," though it's tin.
Here at ARBR that spin doesn't work,
Since the archives will show what a jerk
ARBR's TROLL's been - both snotty and rude,
    Plus combative, abusive and lewd.

Number six on the list: Just BE NICE!
Before sniping, please stop and think twice.
If the good of the group's on your mind,
Please stop showing your hairy behind!
We've been mooned much too often by TROLLS
    And occasional "brother a-holes".

For this group to get back to the place

Though by whatever standards you choose,

In my verse about Billy Goat Gruff,
I was temperate, though it was tough.
Where the goat made an offer of 'PEACE',
    Now it's changed to the much stronger 'CEASE';
And plain text has been changed to a link
That's unkind, but deserved, don't you think?

I have already told you that I only use a question mark if and when I expect

Well, he might, but I'm giving long odds he will not.

All is fair in war, and that is what was going on then. I do not wish to

No EXCUSES are needed; the REASONS are clear.
    Writing isn't your forte;

Hells Bells! Writing is not the forte of fully 90% of the folks on this
group. What does that have to do with anything.

If you want to pick on somebody I am here for you. And I will give better
than I take, of that I can assure you.

    you don't belong here

If you weren't such a sic-ophant. Please get a hunch
That this TROLL doesn't like anyone on this group.
If you cross him you'll see just how cruelly he'll swoop.

There are only a handful on ARBR that I have liked over the years based on
what they have written. There is not one that I would ever want to meet in
real life. That is not what newsgroups are about. I thought everyone knew
    this.

As for Nget, I liked what he did on this group. He showed some guts when the
going got rough, which is more than you ever did.

    Quoted message said:

    He was singing my praises as late as last week;
Now I'm sensing a shift in the tone of TROLL-speak.
Have I changed? No, I haven't, and neither has he,
But he says he likes YOU, and no longer likes ME.
    He's a TROLL, only nice when his bottom gets kissed;
Make him mad and you'll see that this TROLL does exist!

I have never liked you, nor did I ever say I did, but I liked your poetry,
and that is what I said. Surely we can distinguish the artifact from the
    artist.

For instance, I think Beethoven was the greatest genius who ever lived and I
love his music, but I know I would not like him at all as a person. In fact,
I might very well hate him as a person. There is no contradiction in any of
    this.

    OPEN NOTE TO THE TROLL:

Oh, no thanks, Mr. TROLL, we've seen more than enough
Of your ill-mannered postings, malevolent, rough,
Constant whining... Oh, dear, you've been victimized... GEE!
Did you like it, I wonder? Well, neither do we!

A poet should be sensitive and full of delicate feelings, but I am not - at
least not where this group is concerned. I am mostly laughing and full of
good cheer all the time I am posting to whoever, and that most definitely
includes you. Your verse cannot camouflage your very pedestrian views and
    conventional thinking.

It is impossible for me to ever be "victimized" by any on this group because
of the contempt I have for most here (a few exceptions). For instance, there
is no way you could ever victimize me nor me you. That is because we are
both a couple of intellectual [censored], and those are the worst kind of
[censored] in the world. We know how to hate better than most others and we
have long memories which never forget nor forgive. Welcome to the faculty
    lounge!

I will only put a question mark after a question that I want
an answer to... a stupid typo. We prose writers need not take
    as much care.

I do not break up the flow of your words except when absolutely essential in
order to make an immediate point. Either quote me in full or not at all.
You do not have sense enough to paraphrase me.

So he dangles a small preposition or two,
But rewrites all the rules (or at least tweaks a few),
To conform to his failings, insisting he's "Great",
That he's literate, smart - but it's slightly too late...

It makes sense to dangle prepositions from time to time and only a college
freshman English teacher would say otherwise.

I am Great because I am always the subject of the conversation, just as I am
presently with you. That is because I have the knack for saying interesting
things in an interesting way. Even with your unique ability to write verse,
no one is interested in you except yours truly (and Nget). But I am only
interested in your verse, not in you. Or did I already say that.

    Quoted message said:

In the archives at ARBR it's easy to see
That the TROLL picks at nits, little errors which he
Has himself far exceeded by count and in scope.
Does it matter? It doesn't, except to a dope.

Only a nerd would do reaserch in a newsgroup archive. All conversations must
be taken in full context, just as this one should be also. To pull out words
and ideas from previous conversations which are embebbed in a thread of
which you were not a part is truly the mark of a jerk.

By the way, I never make errors. Typos, yes, but not errors.

Perhaps the TROLL is seesawing back now to:

deserve one another. May you all [BLEEP!] one another until
kingdom come... there are just not enough intelligent folks
here for me... Cowards and idiots! That is what ARBR is full
    of...

The above will serve me in good stead when I want to be reminded of your
essential unfairness. You have not only taken things out of context but you
have put together a potpourri which only indicts you, not me. A scoundrel is
as a scoundrel does. This has got to be the low point of anything you have
ever posted to a newsgroup. Congratulations. Now we know how low it is
possible to sink. You really ought to get acquainted with Jon Meinecke, also
of this group. He goes in for this kind of [censored] too.

I am a complex person and a simple poet like you will never be able to
figure me out. That is why poets should only write about love and death -
and other abstract matters that the average normal person does not give a
damn about. Do not try to be a scholar. Abhor all research. Stick to being a
    poet where honesty doesn't matter.

    Quoted message said:

That's about as likely to build confidence in the 'goodness'

There is good old fashion swearing and then there are those who have [censored]
and [censored] on the brain all the time. I am of the former disposition, you are
of the latter disposition. A poet who has [censored] and [censored] on the brain! It is
    better to be a swearer.

    Quoted message said:

Some political putzes use 'spin' -
"Folks, my heart is pure GOLD," though it's tin.
Here at ARBR that spin doesn't work,
Since the archives will show what a jerk
ARBR's TROLL's been - both snotty and rude,
    Plus combative, abusive and lewd.

Taking things out of context marks you for a real jerk in a class by
yourself. I will stand behind and defend every word I have ever written to
anyone anywhere. But the entire conversation will have to be resurrected,
not just bits and pieces that you pull out of context. What a jerk!

If the good of the group's on your mind,
Please stop showing your hairy behind!
We've been mooned much too often by TROLLS
    And occasional "brother a-holes".

Everything with me is [censored] for tat as you are now discovering. There is no
point in being nice to "brother a-holes" who are not nice in return.

Note how the poet here again reverts to images of excrement - "brother
a-holes." He might just as well give up on the verse and join the rest of us
slobs in telling it like it is. Let's face it, there is no nice way of
telling someone that he is an [censored].

You wouldn't know grace if it hit you in the face.

You are going to lose because I can write prose a hundred times faster than
you can write verse. We will leave the question of wit up to the reader.

I believe ARBR has been permanently ruined by the criminal troll episode and
that the group is never going to get back to where it was. There is a lesson
here for all of us who know how to think about things. But the poet thinks
all trolls are the same and has nary a word to say about the criminal troll
who destroyed this group. That is why poets and artists in general are never
to be trusted with anything important. Let them write their verses for our
amusement, but do not take them any more serious that you would a circus
    clown.

There is not one person in a hundred on this group who will understand the
above stanza. Why write anything unless you want to be understood.

In the future I will take on your thoughts one by one irrespective of the
quality of your verse, unless you restrict yourself to writing about love
    and death of course.

PS. It should be noted that Wayne has now devoted several posts to attacking
me, even dredging up ancient history in the process of doing so (something I
have never done to anyone). Attacking is a two way street and I now have
enough information about him based on his present posts to return the favor.
Wayne says he does not like trolls, but who is trolling who here. Others may
be confused by what is going on, but I am not.

I am a prose writer and I am not afraid of words, not any of them. I have
also read poets who were not afraid of words and they were all horrible
poets. Poets should be afraid of words and use them with great discernment.
There is no reason in the world for anyone to read poetry other than for the
beauty of the words. No one reads poetry for the thoughts expressed. You
prove that every time you post. Get the allusions to excrement out of your
verse if you want to be read at all. Sexual allusions are equally bad, but
so far you have not been guilty of that.

Instead of doing a half ass search on Google for a single word, maybe you
could have done a bit of real research and found out what all the fuss was
about. But that would have meant reading many threads with hundreds of
messages. Right! Too much work. It is better not to know what was going on
in order to make a cheap point for the sake of your "art." However, if by
chance you think you did know what was going on, run it pass me and I will
tell you how smart or how stupid you are.

Wayne LoGo the Poet equates me with the criminal troll. But I am a good
troll, bringing only delight, joy and eternal happiness to others. The bad
criminal troll wanted to wreck the group and that is exactly what he did.
But it is all the same to Wayne LoGo the Poet. I give him a B - on his
versifications and a failing grade (F) on his ability to think clearly about
    trolls.

Actually, Wayne LoGo the Poet is not a bad troll himself. Maybe we can have
some fun playing trollish games here on ARBR. Of course, I expect him to be
a good troll like me and not become a bad criminal troll - provided he can
ever figure out the difference between the two.

Nget, don't work so hard. Take it from me - life is short and you do not
want to spend more of it than is necessary in hard labor. By the way, have
you ever read Eric Hoffer? He was a longshoreman like you and wrote quite a
few books about a variety of subjects. His "The True Believer" was his
masterpiece. That man really knew how to write plain English and he never
forgot his working class roots. I always admired him tremendously.

The only time Guy Chapman comes to life is when you get him on the subject

since it is an open and shut case to all except for those few lawbreakers

But Guy Chapman is never serious about anything any more than I am. He
