Sunday, if the rain stops at White Clay/Middle Run, DE (the ultimate SS
trail). It's weighing in at 22 pounds. Considering the larger wheels
and disc brakes, that's not too bad. I probably could shave a pound or
two by switching out the seat, pedals, cranks (go carbon), and tires
(I've got 2.3's on it now) but it's already the lightest MTB I own
anyway so I'll leave it as is. Gearing is 34/17 (I was at 34/16 on the
previous SS).

It's hard for me to do rigid. I don't have the strength to pop it over
some of the bigger logs (there are many) and I rely on the sus fork for
a compression pop.

Oh, and a special props to my LBS Action Wheels in Winonah, NJ! They
are a great bunch of people who treat a bike that wasn't even bought in
their store as one that was. They are a 35 minute drive from my house
(when there is no traffic - which never happens) but worth the drive
even if there is a shop four minutes down the road.

Thanks! That's not a sticker. I don't know how they did it, but it's
part of the paint or clear coated over, I guess.

That was before I spoke with the owner of Niner. He is 5'6" with a 29"
inseam. I am 5'5" with a 30" inseam. He designed the small frame
around specifically for the vertically challenged. I was on the phone
with him for quite a while and his passion for riding really came
through. After he assured me that the ride would be comparable if not
better than a similar 26 and guaranteed it (or my money back), I decided
to give it a try. It's really a different look when you put it next to
a size medium. The slope and tube lengths are quite different and thats
why I have to use a 0mm (DH) stem to push me back on the bike.

When it came down to my final two choices, it was the Niner or the
Ventana El Toro. Well, I wayed the pros and cons and ended up getting
much more bike (and no, not because of size) and a warm fuzzy from
Niner. I also spoke with a few other owners (not just Dean) about their
rides as well. Two I got from Niner and one I found that was someone
selling one on MTBR. I wanted to know why he was selling it and it
wasn't because it wasn't a good bike.

was kind of late Thursday night I went right by your place about 1130 pm
on my way back from NC. It was great weather down there till we hit DC

Nah, I let my LBS put it together. Weird stuff, the husband/owner (part
of a husband/wife team) doesn't ride yet he's probably the best mech
within 100 miles. I don't trust anyone else at that store and I think
he knows it. So, he put it together for me. Gotta through a little $$$
to the locals every now and then.

11:30pm on Thursday? I'm already fast asleep by then. Let me know if
your every coming by on a weekend or even a Friday night. We could hook
up for a Jersey Devil ride.

Aren't you in the Mid Atlantic? Chesapeake Bay area? Are you near
stuff like Susquahana and Potapsco? An SS is perfect for those areas
and just about anything in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed area. I used to
say the same thing about them. There are actually places I ride now
where I am faster than the gearies because there busy thinking and
switching while I'm riding.
