  1. This is what the real RAAM is suppose to be about
    http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/files/newsarchive/062405_3.htm

Not the tragedy that happened yesterday, and not the freak show that
NBC puts together, to appeal to beer guzzeling fatheads that don't even know
the difference between a mountain bike and a road bike. If I was RAAM I
wouldn't prostitute the race to NBC, because I think it damages them more
    than it helps them.

I get it. The real RAAM isn't pointless. It's SAPPY and pointless.

I agree with you. The real FRed Across AMerica is the Ultimate in Sleep
    Deprivation Competition.

There's nothing else on earth like it. 10 days of no sleep. EPIC!

I too would like to partake in a Sleep Deprivation Contest of that
magnitude, but the use of methamphetamine is just not for me. I ask
that we of RBR should not begrudge the meth users of FRAAM their due
though. They deserve our highest admiration and respect in their heroic
    endeavor.

GO FRAAMers!!! FRED YOUR WAY ACROSS AMERICA!!!!!!

    thanks,

    K. Gringioni.

Wrong word. Hint: watch a few George Romero flicks.

    Dumbass -

    What are you talking about?

I *love* FRed Across AMerica. Keep up the posts about FRAAM.

    thanks,

I know you're not part of RAAM or Rando cultures, so I'll give you a
hint. There isn't a picture on his handlebar.

You're saying that after those many hours of sleep deprivation the guy was
just *imagining* that there was a picture on his handlebar?

    *** Harry,

You have an unnatural and some might even
say pathological attachment to the so-called
"Freds" of this world. Were you beaten by
an uncle named Fred when you were a child or
is it just some left over animosity from
    some incident on the road?

    yes, that's the joke.

Got it. Pointless with sappy hallucinations. He'll never make it

I don't know how much night riding, in an exhausted state you've done,
but it's quite an experience. Now days, most Raamsters, and Randonneurs use
these very narrow beam 1 watt LED lights. They kind of have a blueish
texture to them, and sometimes your mind will play some real tricks on you.
You hear stories of stampeding elephants, I've personally ridden right
through ghosts. I've seen dawn of the dead scenarios where there are dead
people walking on the highway. Many people fear riding at night, but if
you're lit up like a Christmas tree, and have your reflecto stuff on, you
rarely have a problem, because there aren't very many cars on the road for
one. You can't use the 10-15 watt rechargeble systems, because they only
last 1.5 hours, and they weigh too much. So your stuck with these 1 watt
LED's that use 4 AA Lithium batteries. I have two of them on my space saver
bar. You have to have backup everything, in case one fails on you. You
don't want your only light pooping out on a descent. They last about 30
hours, and you can hit a store to buy more AA's Alkaline or Lithium when you
need more, or bring some with you. The biggest problem is descending, there
just isn't enough light, so you have to limit your speed. Cateye, and
others, are working on a 5 watt LED, and when those come out, that should be
a big improvement in long distance night riding.

Not surprisingly, you don't get it.

hint: when I was racing, my seatstays had an "I give good Fred" message
in vinyl letters and the weekly team newsletter (which I edited) was
    called "Da Fred".

So yes, I'm terrified of Freds.

    thanks,

And, see, I don't care per se, I just want
to understand where you're "coming from."

Some people here seem to respect you.
So far I've seen next to nothing worthy of
respect. What, you raced and placed back
    whenever?

    Woot.

I'm not too into resume spewing. Just be assured that I was a [censored]
racer - never could win a decent race.

I welcome you to disrespect me at your earliest convenience, this is
