If you're referring to the re-issues after a new publisher revived
them, they've been available for quite a while. Or are you meaning
something else?

There was an article in last Saturday's Daily Mail about it - try searching
on their website? A man (can't remember who) is updating Wainwright's
books - these will show any new roads, houses, take away walls that don't
exist now, etc....

Sorry, but I threw the paper away on Sunday - yesterday's news is old news!

access, forestry work, rockfalls etc etc.

Sounds like sacrilege to me. Mind you, I wouldn't touch the Michael
Joseph ones, due to the warning printed in the front, and the faked
writing to put their name on, and the same is probably true for any
other edition. Luckily I got mine towards the end of the Westmorland
Gazette period, although I'm short of some of the later guides (Coast
to Coast, Outlying Fells etc, although I found a second hand Pennine
Way Companion).

They shouldn't mess around with AWs masterpiece.

As a German I have the possibility to come to Britain only once a year -
for about 25 years now.

But I never failed to find my way in the Lakes with AWs guidebooks -
even if they are slightly out of date. Summits are still where AW placed
them and although a "gate between young oaks" now is a "gate between big
oaks".

I don't think it is necessary to review the books. They have always been
a useful companion during my walks and they will in the future even if
they look a bit worn out...
