Track/Fixed gear bikes. That's right. They're showing up everywhere and everyone will now be jumping on the bandwagon. If you have the balls and the ability to ride one, get one.
Now if only I can get my new seat collar from the bike shop, I'll be able to get to riding mine again...

Get a flip-flop hub so you can ride as either a fixed gear or single speed. Recommend that you do add brakes for any track bike. State laws in most place require them and last thing you want to do is run over a little kid that jumps in front of you.

there's a track in San Diego that I've ridden a few times. Riding a fixie is kind of fun until that first time where you stop pedalling. My back end bucked a little but I quickly started pedalling again to keep from going down.
the fun part about the track here is that for a while there was a root from a tree poking through the cement in turn one so if you were going high you couldn't help but catch a little air!
I see a number of them here, still not statistically signifigant but a few now and then. Singlespeeds are all the rage though, I'd say a singlespeed passes my house every hour or so on nice days.
I dinna understand. What are fixed gear bikes? Just when I get a decent bike (KHS Fxt Rage, IRD Hydraulics, LX, Bomber, Fox etc) y'all start talking single speeds. Now it's fixed gear. A man just can't keep up.
Ask nice and someday I'll post pics of my homegrown studded with 185 roofing nails rear tire that makes riding possible this time of year on the north east coast.

They've been pretty popular around here for a number of years. People like to put those old school swept (pre drop) bars on them. Looks fun in a masochistic kind of way.

Been riding mine for quite a while now, but my seat collar broke and it was an odd size and I had to order one, so I'm waiting to hop back onto it. It already has a flip flop hub but I'm keeping it strictly fixed gear, its more efficient that way and its a better training tool. I already have a front brake and a dummy rear brake lever. I ride it on the road all the time, never had any problems.
We do too, but 36 degree concrete turns, that were two stories high did not appeal to me (I'm a wuss, when it comes to heights). I did, at least get the R/C car racing started there about 10 or so years ago.

I almost broke my ass on a kierin bike a few years ago.

Christ, Carla, I hope not. I'd hate to see the Old Skool crowd overrun by dorks. I mean, imagine. A year from now we'll have people posting [censored] like:
kick-ass triple for that much! What a ripoff!"
We elitists will have to take up unicycling or bicycle B.A.S.E jumping or something.

It would really be cool if you actually had a track to ride one on.
yeah, and unfortunatly they just closed our local velodrome due to Lack of Interest. I don't think thats the next trend. At least not round these parts.

Other uses were found for ours, besides biking. Skating, and R/C car racing. Cool as hell to see a 48" long 1/4 scale car going around the track.

That sucks. They're just finishing a brand new, wooden, indoor one here. Hopefully, the public will have access because I'd love to build up a little steel track bike. -- Slacker

Trends svck. I hope people who get/convert a fixie will make it part of their lifestyle.
