I am not a troll. I honestly believe from my experience, that American beer has no substance compared with Australian beer or a lot of european beer. Sorry to offend. If you talk with most Aussies, they would agree with me. My favourite beer comes from Tasmania.
American beer lacks body and fullness.

I will admit that whilst I was in the states, I didn't try alot of beer only what was available in hotels (the big brands that we get in oz). Namely Budweiser, Coors. there probaby is some good beer available in the states if you know what to look for. At least I would hope.

From what I understand, the universal disgust for American beer applies primarily to the huge-volume mass produced stuff (hey Germans and World Cup visitors, how'd you like the Bud?). There are lots of smaller brews, not to mention microbrews, that are equal to counterparts all over the globe.

As for "real beer", just finished reading a book on beverages in world history; beer was brewed for thousands of years before they started adding hops, so the taste was entirely different, much, much sweeter, as the hops add bitterness. There are still a few of these available around the world. The book is titled something like "Six Glasses that Changed the World," where the "glasses" are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola.

*sneers* don't even embarrass yourself. canada has just slightly better macrobrews than america. compare that to germany, where the #1 beer is warsteiner, which is a really good beer, or belgium, which is the true brewing capitol of the world.

But meanwhile, there has been a brewing revolution over the last 20 years, and there are hundreds of small breweries making really good stuff.

Your right there are alot of micro breweries but truth be told alot of them are owened by the big brewers, Wheather that meens anything or not I don't know, what I do do know is that some of the greatset beer in the world is brewed in Canada!!!
