The moment I realized that rim brakes were integral to my bike's performance

Rim brake tech has come far, but comparing it to discs is still a stretch. Sure, there are improvements in wet weather performance, but are they enough to match discs' stopping power? I have my doubts. Ever tried descending a steep, wet hill with rim brakes? I have, and it's harrowing 😅.

The challenges of relying on rim brakes during critical descents are significant, especially in wet conditions. Given that modern rim brake technology has made strides, how do these advancements truly stack up against the robust performance of disc brakes in real-world riding scenarios? At what point does the evolution of rim brakes reach a level where they can provide comparable safety and confidence on steep, slippery descents without sacrificing their inherent charm?
