Still works well. Have gone thru mebbe 5 sets of those black nylon
sprockets...

Found a forward unit of the same era so of *course* they both had to be
installed on Freddy Fender (my homebuilt junker commuter); that was three
years ago. Amost time for new sprockets again!

I also have an old Sugino crankset that is going
strong, this one a Ritchey brand where the crankarm
doubles as the fifth arm of the spider. The design
seems to make a lot of sense.

Shout out to old Time mtb pedals. Eventually, they
will break, but the beauty is they usually still work
fine even with the body or rail completely broken.
The new version of these pedals does seem to suck
however.

Also Chris King headsets, Shimano Ultegra rear hubs,
Wound Up forks. There was a Specialized sealed front
hub I used daily for 21 years that is still smooth like
butter. The wheel died against a car bumper but the
hub is gonna keep on keepin on strapped to another
rim. Never been serviced in any way shape or form.
Whoever designed that hub was stuffed into a sack
and dumped in the ocean.

Nicely made steel frames. I have a Trek Ishiwata 022
frame that I bought new c. '83. Something like 80,000
miles and still in use. I have a Reynolds 853 race bike
that has survived at least 40,000 miles of curbhopping
pothole smashing bike messenger work in addition to
however many other miscellaneous miles. My Ritchey P-21
never ceases to amaze with what a colossal thrashing
it can handle, and still lighter than most road bikes.

Some parts that don't last: shimano BBs, Continental
tires (xcept Top Touring), ti bolts, aluminum steerers.

531 Frame I bought from a kid who came into the shop that I was working
in. 29 years

Same frame 50,000 miles
