No, it's not ok - she got a £750 fine and nine points! Not as bad as jail and deportation it's true,

This is just plain ridiculous. Even in my country (Italy), where justice is unanimously considered a
joke, if a motorist is involved in an accident resulting in the death of someone, his/her licence is
automatically revoked, and if it's even just partly his/her fault, it is NOT reinstated; and

Assuming I was the local papers correctly (a recent medical suggests that I am - sort of), the
killer on the A259, who just happens to be a failed asylum seeker, received some 16 months for being
a naughtly passport forging lad and a handful of weeks for having hit, killed and run away from the
"accident".Personally, I'd like to see driving sans licence etc be made a far more serious offence.

That is basically my position too. I'd like to see bans handed out much more easily for all moving
traffic offences. The nature and circumstances of the offence would determine the length of the ban,
but they could run from 1 week to life. A ban of a year or more would require a successful re-test
following the ban's expiry for it to be lifted. Driving while banned or not qualified woud be a
serious criminal offence with a jail sentence the likely outcome, and of course an extension of the
original ban.--
