Armstrong post-Stage 1 crash 2003: Four time Tour winner Lance Armstrong (USPS-Berry Floor) also went down but despite a bruise on his left thigh and a blown rear tire, he appears to be OK. Armstrong changed bikes with teammate Chechu Rubiera and finished the stage. He told Cyclingnews afterwards that "Hey, it's never good to crash; but it was nothing serious. I just fell over and got piled on top of. Today was a nervous stage, people were excited because it was the first day...there were lots of spectators and traffic islands along the road. But it's always good to get the first one over." Armstrong post-Stage 6 2004: "We're comin' in to Angers and they have the barriers really tight and you got 200 guys raging through there at 40 miles an hour. I don't know what the hell they're thinking. You're going to have crashes. We were fortunate that the crash was literally 10m inside the 1 km banner, otherwise we would have been docked half a minute...so it was bad luck and good luck."

Geez Brian ... not too out of context. Why didn't you post ALL of what
Lance said, including the first part about the first wreck today where he
basically said the same thing as per your quote from TdF 4.
"It was a typical early race crash; everybody nervous, a lot of wind, two
guys just went down in front of me and there's nothing you can do - you just
hit the brakes and I went over them. It wasn't bad. I got a little bit on
the arm and a little bit on the hip. (I'm stiff) on the hip. I flipped over
and rolled a tire but it's fine."
You're like a politician ... slanting the info to support your bias against
Lance. Give it a rest.

I agree with Lance on this one. I was very surprised at how the road
narrowed down at the 2km point with barriers with their metal feet
sticking onto the road. It was like putting a chicane in the race. I
think the organisers should have selected a different finish route
myself. It was dangerous without adding to the race.
