  1. I watched the first episode of The Biggest Loser last night on NBC.
This is a survival contest where there are two teams of six, competing
to see who can be the last one remaining and collect $250K. Each week
they get weighed and the team that lost the least loses and has to
vote someone off. They also get to add some weight to the other team,
like 5lbs through challenges, so it's not totally actual weight lost.

Well, I have to say, this show is one step closer to killing someone
with reality TV. They've got a couple of guys that are 300+, one guy
is 400+. So they put them on diets and give each team a trainer. The
female trainer is like a drill sgt, saying you may throw up, you may
cry, but you'll do it. The guy is more reasonable.

What they both put these people through, especially the female
trainer, was totally irresponsible and medically unsound. They had
them doing extreme exercise, like 5 hrs a day, right from the start,
when they are all seriously out of shape. They are in a group gym
situation, with the trainers forcing them on. One young guy, who
actually appeared to be one of the more fit ones, was throwing up from
    the workouts.

And they had them doing push ups, abdominal exercises, etc. A person
only has so much they can do in a day. If that were spent doing
aerobic excercises like jogging, bicycling, etc, I would think they
would burn more calories than they will burning out their muscles and
killing themselves, especially when they are seriously obese.

As for the diets, the female trainer has them on the eat less plan,
which is high protein, high fiber, low carb with portion control. The
guy is using the eat more plan which is high volume, low calorie, low
carb, eat 4-6 times a day. It's interesting that while both are LC,
they chose not to follow any of the well known and effective LC diets.
Instead, they apparently left it to the trainers, based on what, we
    don't know.

All I can say is, I'm glad I'm not there! That and where did they
find the lady who is the host? She's overweight herself and certainly
no joy to look at for prime time TV, especially with her wardrobe
which looks like it came from the flee market.

  4. I understand that all participants were medically tested,,,,before they
undertook this challenge,,re: medication, work-out, can they handle it,etc.
I'm almost positive that these networks do not want to be sued in any way,
and will take every step to insure that it doesn't happen.

  5. Yeah, I really trust doctors, like those who constantly run commercials
    promoting weight loss surgery.

The show will be hosted by Caroline Rhea, most recently the host of
her own talk show, but many viewers will know her from her longtime
role on "Sabrina: The Teenage Witch."

Yes, she, like Rosie, definitely has weight issues. Maybe she
    should weigh too.
