The Best Anchovy-Stuffed Olive

to pick up the brand name. El Faro.

Found this online source as a starting point, if not available
locally. It's a Houston Texas brick'n'mortar chain with online store.

I miss Spec's. The original store downtown is truly wonderful. Something
like 1,000 varieties of cheese and the best alcohol selection.

Ironically, I went to Specs right after I bought these smaller 4
cans and saw the 49oz can there - they didn't have the smaller
cans. I spent $9 on those 4 cans, and they're more of a
manageable size ;-)

The only ones I've seen and tasted in New Zealand are Fragata anchovy
filled Manzanilla olives from Spain. They're actually stuffed with
anchovy paste, but I love the real thing and always check delis and
delicatessen sections for something else to try.

Wrong. I've bought plenty of large bottles of pimento stuffed olives
and onion stuffed olives, and I've been able to buy huge catering size
bottles of large green olives stuffed with garlic cloves. But I
haven't yet found anything but small cans of anchovy or salmon
stuffed olives. One lives in hope.

Nit-picking: Actually, it's a can. And a pretty impressive can
at that :-) I saw it last night at Specs, the actual store you
quoted. I had already bought 32oz's in smaller cans at another
store when I saw that one.

That's the way I remember it VA, PA, Ohio, and WV when I lived
there. It's a government-run racket. I miss CA - they're the
least involved in liquor laws.

actually, montgomery co., md. runs the only stores in which you can
buy hard liquor, perhaps the only or one of very few counties that do
so. they all have signs that say 'no cold beer, cigarettes or lottery
tickets,' which tickles me for some reason.

they sell warm beer and wines (some chilled) also, but other stores
are also permitted to sell beer and wine, and presumably cigarettes
and lottery tickets. the liquor prices seem competitive with d.c.'s,
where stores are privately owned.
