  1. So, I have a rather large beard and longer than normal hair. I'm new to cycling and I'm interested in racing CX this fall/winter. And, riding the roads to train. Not wanting to race crits or any thing like that. Maybe do some long rides at things like the Livestrong Challenges and stuff like that. I went into a bike shop to look at CX and Road bikes and immediately felt out of place. The guys at the shop sorta laughed at me while they were behind the counter and asked are you sure you wouldn't rather have a mountain bike? You look more like a "mountain biker". I'm not against mountain biking. I just like CX and would like to give it a go. So, is going to be that big of a deal to race CX with a beard??? I mean come on it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. And, riding on the road I won't be trying to break any world records. Just working to get in better shape and to be outdoors enjoying the scenery. Alright I feel better now that I got that out there. So, what do you all think? Does the beard make me a mountain biker and nothing else??? Please say it ain't so!!!!

Did anyone ever wear helmets like that in a race? It's like Jason's hockey mask rotated backwards or your grandmas collander...

He's rockin' the beard and isn't quite as self consious as you. Are you sure you're man enough to be sporting facial hair and spandex duds at the same time.

The paradox - which to shave first: Legs or face.

You, yes you... look at my beard again and I will eat your face and then your children.

    Facial fluff brings the speed.

Either that or one ferret escaped from his shorts and wrapped itself around Cav's neck.

  4. HAHA, Not self conscious. Just didn't know if there was some sort of safety issue with facial hair and roadies that weren't an issue with mountain bikers. I have noticed that more CX riders have facial hair. I played the Hooters Tour with a beard when no other golfers were rocking the beard so I'm used to being the odd one. And, of course now it's the in thing to have a beard on tour, thanks Lucas Glover. Just for kicks I'll ask this....How much time does having no or little facial hair shave off your times when racing road? Just curious. Thanks for the pics by the way! Love that movie!

  5. Yah, Graybeard, facial hair is dangerous. It tends to tangle females, and males too.

I last saw this cartoon on television, the year it was released, about 1959.
Beards are built onto men by nature.

John at The Home Depot? I recall now, the old fashioned name of your recent beard.
It is seen in this cartoon. It is called a "chin strap beard". You looked good in yours.

John Henry? Oh Lord, you were a man too,

  6. yup, full beard... gotta be either a mountain biker or a recumbent rider.

  7. Well, looks like I'll be going against the grain again!🙂
