Are you making sure to get all your veggies in so you get some fiber to bulk
up the stool? It's also possible that your gallbladder is complaining. If
the pain is truly severe, see a doctor.

  4. No, if anything, some people complain of constipation. However, there are
"low carb" foods with sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohols are like a massive
laxative. The are often found in low carb and low sugar candy or bars.

Otherwise, you may want to look at conventional causes like food poisoning,
    or a virus.

  6. Isn't Pepsi Max the one with half the sugar of regular Pepsi? If so,
that's still quite a lot of sugar, so don't drink it. Try cutting out the
diet sodas too and see if it helps, but I doubt that's it. I get mild
diarrhea if I eat too much spinach, and severe if I eat anything with sugar
alcohols. Are you eating hot peppers? Those do it to some people too.
Sounds like food poisoning, though, honestly. Any chance that you ate some
    under-cooked meat recently?

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

  7. Even if it's not the diet cola, you should cut them out and be drinking
water. Many people don't lose weight because of diet soda.

Hi Steven, welcome to the group! Are you eating low-carb bars, shakes or other
manufactured low-carb products that contain sugar alcohols such as maltitol,
lactitol, xylotol, etc.? Sugar alcohols can have a STRONG laxative effect on
some people. If so, the good news is that you are probably not ingesting much in
the way of carbs from them (the "net effective carb" rule applies) -- the bad
news is that you are spending the day on the toilet, cramping, running out of TP,
stinking up the bathroom, and probably have a sore tushy by this point. Some
people can handle some sugar alcohols and some can't. Some can handle one kind,
but not the another -- it's a crapshoot (literally).

You may also have something else going on, though, such as a virus, food
poisoning or allergy to some new food. Most people tend to get constipation when
they first start low-carbing, so this IS unusual. If you ARE eating a lot of
processed foods -- KNOCK IT OFF! Seriously, it's best to try to stick to the
basics when you first start low-carbing, get through the "carb flu" and have a
good handle on it. After a month or so, you can try new things one at a time to
see how they affect you. NOTE: If something with sugar alcohols does NOT cause
digestive upset, chances are that you are absorbing more carbs than the "net"
    claimed on the label.

these are better than the aspartame (sp?) sweetened ones.

I'd second (or maybe fifth by now) the comments about sugar alcohols.
They certainly mess up my gut.

Steven, you wrote that you just started last Monday. Today is Sunday. And
yet you are now writing that you are eating "all my veggies, lettuce and
peppers, etc." and drinking soda pop. This is NOT the Atkins Diet. If you
didn't read the book, you need to go back and re-read it. The first two
weeks of the diet are called "Induction" and what you are doing is...not
    following the diet.

Huh? Lettuce and other veggies are definitely included in induction
from everything I've seen here. Soda pop, ok, you're right there, I
gather, but you're not just allowed to eat vegies but you're required to
    on induction.

I also had extremely bad diarrhea during induction. I found out I was
intolerant to eggs (I was eating lots) and later narrowed it down to just
the whites. It took awhile to figure out through a process of elimination.

Yours may be caused by other foods or drinks. Testing them one at a time is
tedious, but it's pretty much the only solution.

Well im a 22 year old male who is very overweight. Last Monday i decided it
was time for a change, bought the atkins book and got on with it, was doing
well ... my massive appetite is now only a fraction of what it was. However
the last 2 days ive been feeling awful, stomach pain for the most part of
the day, diarrhea (its like brown water and i've counted 16 times of toilet
visiting yesterday) and a further 5 more today. Am also feeling naeseated
... is this normal? how long can i expect this to last? Its costing me a
fortune in toilet paper! Im drinking plenty of water to make up for what im
    ejecting!

    thx for ur help

Aren't you taking anything for it? Imodium (I use the generic when need
be) works quickly and helps keep you from being dehydrated. I'm sure
it's cheaper than all the toilet paper and your wasted time and energy!
