I'm making turkey, deep fried (first time!) and roasted. Both will have been
brined, free range.
I'm not making any special effort to cook low carb for my husband's family.
Only substitute will be xylitol for sugar, since there's no compromise in
taste
or texture in baking.
We're having cornbread, sausage and apple stuffing, mashed turnips, candied
sweet potatoes and granny apples, green bean bundles wrapped in bacon, with a
soy, brown sugar, butter and worcestershire glaze, twice baked potatoes,
cranberry orange and crystallized ginger relish, (sliced canned cranberries
for
Tom's family, ugh), pumpkin pie, apple torte and some other dessert.
Before hand, shrimp cocktail, baked brie drizzled with honey, served with
sliced apples and crackers, assorted other cheeses, nuts, warm clam dip en
croute...
Oh, man, Susan... may I come down to your house? The meal I'm making
sounds so dull in comparison:
- roast turkey (brined if it's cold enough the night before to put it on
the screened porch in a bucket) with stuffing made with low-carb bread,
onions, celery, giblets, herbs, garlic, and fresh ginger root
- mashed Idaho potatoes
- squash seasoned with butter, maple syrup, and nutmeg
- steamed broccoli with lemon
- turkey gravy
- black and green olives
- homemade wholeberry cranberry sauce and cranberry/orange relish
- seltzer, sparkling cider, or milk (one person dining is 9)
- bought pecan pie provided by Mother, plus something I'll whip up --
probably an apple crisp and homemade French vanilla ice cream, though
possibly pumpkin custard and the same ice cream
- coffee/decaf/tea
