The bike-related Christmas shopping list looks something like this.

For Mother:

- new bike. Something with a basket has been specified; probably
Pashley. However, as she's an inveterate traveller I think she'd get
on with one of the folders I saw recently.

For Daughter v.1.0:

- a h*lm*t. She pointed out that her current one doesn't fit. Which is
hardly suprising seeing as it's lain unused in her bedroom since she
was 4.

For Daughter v.2.0:

- new bike. First "real bike". Daughter v.1.0 has a Scott complete
with mudguards, rack and dynamo. The same or similar this time, I
suspect.

For Me:
- new bike 1 (folder). Dahon Speed TR is top of the list.
- new bike 2 (audax/fast tourer). But I'm not sure what.
- that new Cateye rear light.
- waterproof jacket.

Impressively, my wife told me that the best present I've ever given
her was a bike.

Not completely convinced. It is not kitemarked as far as I can see,
and although it is extremely bright it's no brighter (to my eye) than
the LD600. Since I am big on always having the legal figleaf of a
kitemarked rear lamp as well, I don't think it adds very much. I will
be conducting a side-by-side evaluation with my RealLITE though - if
it is as visible as that I might change my tune since the RealLITE is

No eye deer. If not it is most likely because the average weasel is
too stupid to realise. Actually thinking about it would you count the
case of Peter Longbottom, who was held to be partly to blame for his
own demise because he was using a non-approved flashing rear LED
(which the DfT says is between three and five times more visible than
a steady light)?

I usually use the TL-AU100 and B&M TopLight, both of which have at
least 180 degree visibility.
