Hi all, I'm happy to say that I just purchased an Oakworks Nova table with their flannel sheets. The school I'm preparing to attend had a decent deal on a brand new one. Thanks for all the input from people here.
I have another product question. I have heard arguments about lotions versus oils. From past experience, I know that oils can stain sheets, but lotions seem to dry out. I would love to hear what some of the pros here have to say on this matter.

Good question.... what I would recommend is to not buy any lotion in bulk until you do know what you will like. I see BioTone's NutriNatrual line and I use the lotion. It doesn't soak into the skin real fast or anything and doesn't stain. On the back and neck though, I will use (if ok'ed by the client) and oil based blend with essential oils.
Everyone has a preference so its hard to say what you will personally like. I do find however that some clients will NOT like an oil used from head to toe as it can feel greasy. You will always want a lotion on hand or even a creme. I know some therapists that really like the BioTone massage creme.

The Dual Purpose creme is really nice, not quite as greasy as oil. It goes on pretty slippery for warmup, then has a bit of drag to it for heavier work. The lotions I've tried did dry out - much prefer the creme.
I don't use essential oils on folks that don't want them. If someone has allergies, we tread lightly. They know what they like from the beginning most the time. They will walk in and say they can't stand eucalyptus or something to that effect. Essential Oils can help but like I said, you have to tread lightly and carefully.

Just curious about the essential oils...do you have a lot of clients who have allergy problems with them?

Has anyone else tried these yet???

No... haven't heard of it. I stick to non-scented stuff though as I work with essential oils a lot.
You know, I think I answered that wrong.... I was thinking asthma for some reason. I have not had anyone have allergy problems with them. Do you mean having a allergic reaction like skin stuff?

I tried a product by The Body Shop last night with my wife, who has eagerly volunteered to be a subject as I learn. It is called "Rich Massage Lotion", and has a list of ingredients longer than I care to type here. It appears the main ingredients are mineral oil and water. I noticed that after working with it for a few minutes, little balls of something began to form. Couldn't tell whether this was something in the lotion or skin residue, but it was a little disturbing. I don't think I have ever noticed this when using oils, although I can't say I really paid that much attention before.
We have another Body Shop oil which is soybean oil based. Haven't tried it yet, but it will be interesting to compare.

What you probably had was dry skin cells that loosened up. Could be from the mineral oil, but it can sometimes happen with regular massage oil.
Ahh, yes. Mineral oil. Take a lump of coal, heat it to drive off vapors, distill them and call it mineral oil. Add a little lanolin and call it Baby Oil. Isn't modern day marketing wonderful?

Actually, I have both so I tend to think of allergies and asthma together. I seldom if ever think in terms of hives for allergies...usually other symptoms. I know anything with Aloe in it is like rolling in a weed patch for an hour. On the other hand, I've never noticed any allergies to fruit scents (not used much in aromatherapy, are they?).

It's water-based so it washes out of stuff easily, it glides well and it only costs about $1.00 for a fourteen ounce bottle.
For that price, and the availability, how could I not try it? Thanks for the tip.

Ah, yes. In the name of the "war against terrorism", we shoot ourselves in the foot by forcing anyone who doesn't follow the party line to become an outlaw/ "terrorist".

The Herbal Select is the primary oil that I use. It doesn't stain the sheets and all New Clients compliment on the fragrance. The glide is excellent to boot..G.L.all!!!

Never thought of Aloe for someone with allergies. I will have to keep that in mind.
As for the fruit scents, they can be very handy in Aromatherapy. Scents like Orange or Tangerine are very uplifting so good for depression or just for a energy boast. Plus they smell good. 🙂
