I'm off to Manchester in the morning to spend the weekend with pals, and then I'm off to Edale to start my Pennine Way attempt first thint on Monday morning. When I look out of the window, see the rain and consider the bogs in the first couple of days I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry, but I'm sure it'll be a unique experience, come what may...!
Many thanks to all of you - and that's a lot of you - who've patiently answered my kit, route etc questions over the last few weeks. All that help is very much appreciated :-) I hope to be back in about 2 and a half weeks.

Enjoy yourself. Are you doing it in one go? I started it a few years ago but it took me two days to do the first morning's walk (according to a urw-er who has just returned to the group after trouble with his phone line).
I got lost in the mist on the top of Bleak Low ... or was it Kinder Scout? No wonder I was lost!
Have fun! See you when you get back. I'll be walking up and down things this weekend, but not over a particularly great distance. My elder daughter is competing at a field archery shoot locally. -- Fran If you need my email address please ask.

Good luck! Manchester has reverted to its rather unfair reputation, thunderstorms for several days, and the ground is soggy in my garden at 250ft ASL, so I can't imagine what Black Hill will be like.
The words route and alternative spring to mind. :-) -- Gordon
Good Luck. I and 8 pals will be starting it on th 18th Sept. "Peewiglet" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Finished! My feet hurt...
Hello! Welcome back.
Take your boots off, open a bottle of wine, then get cracking writing your Trip Report..... and not too much detail about the kettley thing (cos I've still not got one).
Now I await the long term test report on the Balloon Bed - assuming you took it...
<Blush> I took it, but for the first 3 days I was too utterly wiped out to try to blow up the balloons in the evening, since I also took my long Ultralight Thermarest. I posted it home from Hebden Bridge with the filter coffees and a redundant book...

And if my memory is correct, your clothes, pack, skin, hair and everything else will be a dark shade of brown.
Quite right! Well, a rather ruddy shade of brown, anyway :-)

Which bit did you enjoy the most?
It's hard to say. However, sitting in the evening sunshine drinking cans of ice cold cider with a bunch of other walkers outside the Post Office shop at Dufton, at the end of a long day's walk, the evening before the 20 mile walk to Alston, ranks pretty high :-) Sitting in the sunshine at Thwaite drinking tea and feeding half of my fruit cake and Wensleydale cheese to a feral hen was another great moment! I was very lucky with the weather in the end: the last 3 days were fabulously sunny, and walking the last 8 miles after an 0600 start from the 18 mile bothy down into KY on Thursday morning was one of the greatest highs I've ever experienced :-))

Oh... and another great moment was sitting in the television room (TELEVISION ROOM??! :-) at the (excellent) YHA in Baldersdale, watching the Hannah Hauxwell video "Too Long a Winter", which put all the sore feet and aching shoulders entirely into context for me...

Sounds great. I was there some 20 years ago. Pitched our tent in the pub car park at ... I forget the name of the place .... about 3 days in, possibly begins with a C. Cooked and ate our tea. Still hungry so demolished a meal in pub before using their handbasin and hitting the sack.
Liked the limestone area the best I think. But Dufton is nice too. Hasn't the yha closed?
