Best explanation IMO ... It'd be the only reason(with a long cycle home) ... that I'd do it. (I
never have so far BTW) ...

As you say .. someone with tools .. I say .. who carries these weird tools, and the know-how ...

My pedals are a nightmare to get off .... greased and everything ...

They probably had their pedals stolen and carefully thought to steal the "nearest from home" style
pedals ... it's not right, but it sounds like a vicious circle ...

Some pedals only require an allen key to remove them.

Nor I, but many pedals can be unscrewed from the other side using an Allen key.

Probably, but apart from allen keys on some, pedals (those seized in place aside) can also be
unscrewed using any old 15mm spanner - no dedicated pedal spanner required. Of course, your average
opportunist thief probably doesn't carry a set of spanners around with him either (and most probably
wouldn't have any idea which way to unscrew them)....

Nope, and they weren't the kind that needed special kit to remove. An allen key will suffice (and
did apparently)! It could have been worse I suppose.
