Wow! That is real engineering. I was so impressed I bought
one before I even rode it. Then the shop owner gave one to
test ride. Amazing. It combines the ruggedness of a mountain
bike with the speed of a road bike. There won't be many road
bikes passing me from now on.

It's a bit pricey here in Norway, about $2000, but I bet you
can get it a lot cheaper in the US.

And the relevance to swimming is.....?

  4. its not relevant to swimming, but is relevant to triathlon,
which i'm sure more than a few posters and lurkers here care
about. even though he didn't label it OT, i'm sure everyone
is smart enough to know that with a subject header like that
    it wasn't about swimming.

if you want to maintain this pissing contest with martin how
about you email him and do it there? even though the
relevance was tenuous, it has way more merit than a fatuous
statement like that, or this one for that matter.

Many swimmers do cross training, either because they need it
for their competitions (triathlon) or because they want to
avoid swimmer's syndrome, and one of the most popular cross
training sports for swimmers is cycling. The Fisher Dual
Sport 129 (or 229, which is cheaper) is a good investment
    for those people.

You'd know all this stuff and wouldn't have to ask these
questions if you talked to a coach once in awhile.

My post actually did have a tangential relationship with
swimming, which diablo and I both explained, and which you
ignored. In either case, I don't flood the newsgroup. You're

I had just started my ride to work this morning, and a guy
on a mountain bike passed me like he meant it. I was in the
middle range at the time. I switched to high and passed him
a few seconds later like he was standing still.

For those who might be considering spending some serious hard-
earned cash on a new mountain bike that you will be using a
lot on the road, the Fisher Dual Sport 129 (or the less
expensive 229) is a very good investment.

I propose that you and Martin meet in Esbjerg, Denmark and
engage in an athletic challenge to include biking, swimming
and sailing... all the while cross-dressed, of course
(specifics and possible handicap points -
e.g, if Martin brings a coach - to be determined between
you.) The loser, for a period of 5 years, *must* respond
to all of the winner's posts with "Wish I'd said that!"
Additionally, the loser's signature file will be altered
to read "Wishing I were [winner's name]."

Just to spice things up, the following incentives also
    apply:

    If Martin loses:
    - He must wear a "I voted for Bush" t-shirt for one
    year. If Martin wins:
    - Duncan will retain a personal coach.

    It's a start, anyway...

I propose that you and Martin meet in Esbjerg, Denmark and
engage in an athletic challenge to include biking,
swimming and sailing... all the while cross-dressed, of
course (specifics and possible handicap points -
e.g, if Martin brings a coach - to be determined between
you.) The loser, for a period of 5 years, *must* respond
to all of the winner's posts with "Wish I'd said that!"
Additionally, the loser's signature file will be altered
to read "Wishing I were [winner's name]."

Just to spice things up, the following incentives
    also apply:

    If Martin loses:
    - He must wear a "I voted for Bush" t-shirt for one year.
    If Martin wins:
    - Duncan will retain a personal coach.

    It's a start, anyway...

I like it! Especially if I can chose my own coach (and I
already have her details). However it must be sporting
challenge, not a mere battle of wits as I wouldn't want to
take advantage of an unarmed man.
