Terra Nova - Solar 2 or Voyager ?

No, but any particular reason you're limiting yourself to
Terra Nova tents? There isn't exactly a shortage of other
options (though I'm not trying to say TN aren't any good,
just that they don't have a monopoly on good tents). What
are your particular requirements beyond "2 person
backpacking"? I can think of reasons where I'd prefer each
over the other...

The man at Terra Nova (Mark - great after sales service -
thanks) says the Solar 2 has more headroom ??

I just went thro' all this - and got a S2. I had lots of
pros and cons for each,but I use it solo and carry it in a
sea kayak. I haven't used both, but having just lived in my
S2 for a week in the Hebrides - including sitting out a
couple of "blows" - I'm well pleased. I would suggest that
you'll be very cosy and need to be very good friends 2-
up.....and the one with the weakest bladder needs to slep
next to the door.

Well - I have a Solar Minor - a fantastic tent, that's all.
Spent Saturday night in it (and my girlfriend !) with a gale
blowing and [censored] down *all* night - no problems. So I have
a high opinion of Terra Nova !

Requirement is weight and don't want to buy another for the
next ten years !

Fair enough, but there's no shortage of people who've stayed
dry in nasty weather in other tents (Saunders and Hillebergs
in my case). They are good, but they're not the only games
in town so don't purely limit your shortlist to them is my
advice, even if you give them a casting vote if all else
appears equal.

The Voyager is heavier, but should be tougher. I'd have a
good look at the Hilleberg Nallo as an alternative, see
other threads here for details. The Saunders Spacepacker 1
is a fair bit lighter, but the inner is smaller and your
head is against a sloping wall which really bugs some people
(though not me). It also has more storage space and each
person gets their own porch and a choice of two doors.
Finishing isn't as good as TN but the materials are sound
and I've never had any leaks in mine. I wouldn't recommend
it for people much over 5'10" if you're two up and can't
sleep diagonally, at least not for longer trips, though the
Plus model has more room (though is of course heavier). As
for longevity, the only reason I bought a second one after 7
years was my original went AWOL when my flat was burgled.
Second one is 7 years old now and still doing fine.

Hello, I have owned a number of quality tents. Vango.Terra
Nova.North Face.Saunders plus others. I now use two which I
have decided are the best. Best? Best for
me. I have a Force Ten Assault forWinter and Hilleberg Akto
for all year but lightweight camping. Hilleberg are good
as of course are Force TEn (Vango). Terra Nove are
brilliant quality but were a little more time consuming
to ercet fly sheet wise. Solar and Solar 2 are good
tent. Vaude Hogan was another I used, very easy to erect
but bulky. All in all its cost me over the years
financially, but now I habve the best two tents
available. For me with my ways. You should choose what
you want and for your needs. No one person can tell you
what is best-for you! Good Luck. John.

While readily agreeing "best" is a very personal thing, what
made you feel that for yours the F10 was better than, say,
the Hilleberg Tarra? (my own choice of winter nuclear
bunker, which like all tents is not beyond reproach...)

Ah ha! Peter et al,
Colour, then size, then price (a very good deal) then oh what the heck it
was a Bargain! Seriously, it was my first choice and I searched until I got
one at a good price. No regrets. I love both this Force Ten and my
Hilleberg, it makes me angry that it took me over 13 years to get it
right-for me.
