  1. After five years, yes five, I am finally able to run after getting PF. I'm
up to 10 minutes, non stop "running" for the first time since 2000.

I'm interested in how others have survived this type of injury.

Prior to my injury I had 3 marathons under my belt and I was training for my
fourth as a Boston qualifier. My PR was 3:35, needed 3:20 to qualify. I
was doing speed work once a week, alternating long runs each weekend. One
weekend was a 10-12K, next was 28-32k. Normal "maintenance runs were 30
    minutes 4X/wk.

I was feeling great and doing well in races. Placing 3rd in a 5K in March
2000 and winning my age group in a local half marathon in May. Life was
    good!

I thought I should upgrade my running shoe from Asics 2080? to Asics (can't
recall the model but RW mag said it was a great marathon shoe). After my
3rd run in the new show I started to notice the dreaded morning pain in my
heel during my first steps of each day. I knew what it was but I was in
denial. I was 6 weeks out from the qualifying marathon, surely I could
"suck it up" for 6 weeks, qualify then treat the PF, right?? Wrong!

I continued to train, the pain got worse, at the last minute I withdrew from
the full and ran the half with a friend as a "pace setting" favor.

That was my last run, August 2000. Since then I have tried orthotics, (I
still wear them today), Physio, Acupuncture, cortisone, tape wraps, magnetic
insoles. You name it. It appears the only cure is time.

After five comeback attempts and 60 lbs later, I am finally "running" I
have foot pain every morning but not in my heel. It's like in the top of my
foot. Seems like all the bones and muscles are in a state of shock to this
    vaguely familiar exercise thing.

Anyway, what I'm interested in hearing is how others have recovered from PF?
    Is my recovery extreme? etc

    Thanks

    Mike

    Mike,
PF, was relatively common in runners years ago, when over 99% of
runners had it. Todays wonder drugs, and surgerys, have cut that down
to very few. Between Viagra, and sex change operations, almost no
runners suffer from Penis Failure anymore.
    You are welcome.

  3. P.S. I'd tell you about my PF story, but it's so heartbreaking, so
    devastating, that you'd cry.

  4. You say you're recovered, yet you're whining about it, to strangers.
    Toughen up, buttercup.

  5. I cannot speak about your PF problems, but can pass on advice for
returning to running. The key, especially after more than 4years not
running, is take it slow. Build endurance before speed. Read the
running FAQ and consider yourself a beginner.

It's hard, I know, to restart. You know how fast you used to be, and
the frustration of not achieving those speeds and distances is hard.
Stay focussed on your new progress. Then you will build new successes
    and triumphs.

Good luck and enjoy the run. It's worth it.

You miss the whole point about usenet. It is not a chat room where
anyone can speak on any topic that spills out of their head. Usenet is
structured on topics. It works because it is oriented on topics.

If you want chat room protocol, go to AOL.

The rec.running group is much more open than many other groups.
Occasional off topic posts aren't immediately slammed. But continual
off topic posts are truly disruptive.

Asking someone to post in an appropriate group is NOT restricting

post elsewhere. If other groups chosen by that person all say go
elsewhere, then go create an alt.* group.

There is another right involved in this. It is call freedom of
    association.

    oh?

.... so you assert 'freedom of association' with <steamingpileof [censored]

who posts the following http://tinyurl.com/4nkbl topical material at

So please take a breath. Free speech is not going to die just because
we agree as a community to ask folks to abide by a simple rule of
    staying on topic.

t's common curtesy. (but maybe its not as common as we thought).

t's most courteous and respectfull, 'indeed'!

... great material for various 'Running' magazines, too without
    doubt!

... nawh, the 'abuse', speaks for itself.

  7. Wow, Rec.running sure has gone down the toilet since I was here last five
    years ago
