I watch it religously on ITV4. And then post tapes of it to Darkest
Surbiton (got your email at home btw).

No, you're not the only one, although it does seem a little quiet
compared to some previous years. It may be something to do with the
removal of most of the favourites just before it started, or perhaps
people are worried they may end up using the word "dumbass". Today was
well worth watching. I've been to La Toussuire, but according to the
commentators on Eurosport it seems to have changed pronunciation to
"Tusiere", which grated somewhat.

I'm sort of happy that the prediction I made the other day sort of
happened in that Cadel Evans did better than Landis and Menchov. What I
wasn't expecting I suppose was Pereiro, Sastre and Dessel doing so well
on today's stage, though I suppose I should be least surprised by
Pereiro. Now I think Kloden has ridden himself into contention and a
good ride for him tomorrow could be decisive. Pereiro and Evans look
like they can keep up with him and Evans could then go on to take it on
the time trial, but I'm expecting Sastre and Dessel to fade a little
tomorrow and it to still throw up a surprise.

As for Rasmussen, I don't think I've ever seen someone so happy in so
much pain as him crossing the finish line today. I do wonder if he
almost had to drop down the GC a bit to make sure he was allowed to get
away with that sort of ride today.

Ah, I see its this time of year again. I must remember to switch on if
only to view the superb coverage of views of the beautiful French
countryside. Unfortunately as far as the cycle racing, this has
about as much interest for me as prize fighting. Mind you I tried to
follow it last year just to see if Armstrong would pull it off again,
rather as one might have watched the drama of last Ali fights. Apart
from never getting to grips with what the hell was going on (eg how the
winner manages to get to be the champ whilst seemingly never actually
winning a single stage :-) -help me out with the rules guys. I think
what bothers me a little is the incredible wanton burning of massive
quantities of fossil fuel that you can see entailed in the thing. (As
well as the obvious Big Money undrpinning it all leaving me cynical now
in my old age about all the sports at one time I used to love). I
suppose the carbon footprint of the Tour has been calculated, and
surely it dwarfs all the varooming of the Monaco Grand Prix as an
excercise in environmental degradation and global warming?

single race. He can finish second in every race as long as he tots up more

The yellow jersey is awarded on aggregate time which is also called
general classification or GC. That is why time trails and mountain
stages are so important.

That is a bit like the green jersey. This is won by the rider having
the most points. Some stages have more points than others but you have
to complete all the stages, unlike in F1 where you can win the
championship without finishing every race.

Many of us wait until the ITV4 1900-2000 synopsis; which BTW seems to
be the same length as the old C4 slots but with another 30 mins of ads

Hot? Nicely overcast and cool here at around 17 till this afternoon
when the sun came out briefly and it got up to 21. Perfect weather for
a ride, so I had a pootle on the road bike (sans front mech - waiting
for a replacement so I was on the flatter route). Why is it so hard to
pootle on a road bike that seems to be saying 'faster! faster! faster!
you know you want to..'?

I read somewhere that it was the case in NASCAR that a driver could win
28 of the 29 races in what was then the Winston Cup, finish second in
the 29th and /still/ not win the Championship. I think they have
changed the rules now...

Yes, I'm fed up of Chris Boardman answering dumb questions from Gary
Imlach. Mind you having said that, last night's episode of the Wide
Open Tour Show did major on the racing.

Tomorrow's is going to be boring as hell, even more so given that it
will be live. OK TTs aren't the most exciting thing in the world to
watch but how about having the projected time of the riders as they
come into the last kilo? That way we could see if they were dying a
thousand deaths or storming home.
