While you are in that part of France, I would highly recommend the Cider, Pommau & Calvados, especially if purchased from the local farmers. Grapes are not grown around there, but apples are.
Had a long and interesting chat with 2 german cyclists on a cmp site in france over a few drinks. We compared, contrasted, etc all the drinks we'd encountered in our travels - and realised with a flash of inspiration that we had liked ALL of them. Could a been the booze talking though!
I couldn't agree more. When I was last in Germany, the drink that slipped down best along with the beer was Apfelcore (sp?). When I was in Paris last I preferred Pastis and when I am at home in Scotland, nothing is finer than a good dram.

My experience exactly: I was having a few in a bar sitting on one of those high stools. My bladder finally got through to my brain, which eventually managed to get the rest of me into motion. As I slid off the stool, all communication with my legs stopped and I found myself on the floor. It was all very funny for my friends and the rest of the bar.
The other deadly one I have come across from Germany, although I didn't drink it there, is Freezengiest (again I have no idea about spelling). A chap I used to drink with is half German and our sessions would usualy end with a shot of this stuff. Again served ice cold (must be a connection there somewhere), but you set fire to it before you drink it (it is advisable to put it out immediately prior to pouring it down).
