TDF 2007 map?

I think you mean Maidstone ?

..... and the actual route (i.e. roads, villages etc) is unlikely to be
announced until about mid-May 2007 - that's the time of year that the
precise route is usually announced - anything prior to that as far as the
route is concerned is just key towns.

The route published publicly for 2006 is, as yet, only indicative with stage
starts and finishes.

yeah, thats the map I've already seen. Does the route shown actualy
relate to the roads that exist or has someone just used a pen to join
up the names in curving lines?

Oopps, yes I made a mistake. I really meant Maidstone not Maidenhead.

I'm asking because I have a friend who lives in Hawkenbury, just off of
the A274 from Maidstone and wondered if the route went anywhere near by.

Local news stories suggest that the route has pretty much been
determined, even if the whole thing hasn't yet been published as such. I
have found out, for example, the route through Canterbury to the finish,
but I don't know details of other sections of the route.

Your friend could probably find out by asking around locally.

Tbh, I'd be surprised if they announced the towns that were going to be
on the route without having worked out if there was a viable route
between those towns - maybe a few small details will change between now
and next year, but nothing major, I suspect.

Tim Moore's book "French Revolutions" has an entertaining account of cycling the
route of the TdF a few weeks before the race. He is not complimentary about his
encounters with information offices.

[I have pruned the French accent imitations - except one]

Quote 1: "We do not announce this information" said the voice defiantly,
"until 15 May". The line went dead

Quote 2: "I'd just like to know the route of the first stage of the Tour de
France"
Her face lit up. "No, no, no! I'm sorry , but it is not possible to say this!"

"But the exact details were announced yesterday."
"No, no! It's a beeeeeeg secret!"

Maybe things have changed since 2000.

A good proportion of the route from a few miles east of Ashford to the
outskirts of Canterbury follows the B2086 Hythe road (a.k.a Stone
Street) - hope this is of use to anyone planning to spectate. The local
paper's website (www.kentonline.co.uk) may also prove helpful.
