I've SBS bashed in the past as much as anyone, but their coverage this
year is pretty ace (apart from MT, but oh well). I get the impression
they go to live pics ASAP. They aren't holding out on us.

Yeah I've been watching the TV with the laptop beside the couch with
cyclingnews.com and the letour.fr sites on auto update. Most
dissappointing telecast miss was the night before last when this happened:

13:00 CEST 25.5km/165km to go
The peloton really doesn't want to let much go, and bit by bit, the 10
rider counter move is caught. Charteau tries again, but is chased by
Boonen and McEwen. He complains - 'let me go!'

Boonen and McEwan chasing down the breakaway is something I would have
loved to see.

Yes, that would have been good to see.

Stage 15 on Tuesday (18 July) from Gap to l'Alpe -d'Huez has the Col
d'Izoard at the 86km point. I hope SBS's coverage will start before
that.

I'm sure all the mountain stages are covered live and entire. Sherwen and
Liggett were already well into their commentating when SBS dropped in at
10.10pm.

Even if coverage was available SBS won't show the cycling before 10pm, due
to the World News, and even then they persisted with Gabriel for 10 minutes
before joining the coverage missing out on part of the second climb.

The new communications laws unveiled yesterday would allow SBS to broadcast
more of the cycling on a second digital channel. But it may not be economic
enough for them to bother.

I wouldn't be so sure. Even the American coverage is only of the last
2-3 hours, and it's not as if starting coverage at 5 am instead of about
8 am would eat into their peak time.

Coverage started on Belgian tv at the same moment ours did last night. They probably show the most cycling on tv out of any nation so thats saying something.

Id liked to of seen more but i'm not sure sbs could show it much earlier even if their programming schedule allowed it.

I can't believe the Tour is starting in London next year and all we get is 1hr of highlights each night and some live stuff on the weekends!

what a lot of whinging, in my day, 1970's, you would have to wait months
just for a colour copy of a British mag with pictures of le tour, hardly any
footage on TV at all, now it's everywhere, great!

My thoughts exactly.
I haven't involved myself in the debate because I'm greatful for any
coverage at all!
