Taking up the bike agvice

It looks like an okay machine. The other ones to hunt down and look at
are Dahons which start at a similar price level. Dahon are the world's
biggest folder manufacturer, and though they're not generally sexy they
do work quite acceptably. One thing you can find on some Dahon models
that the Bronx doesn't have are hub gears, which are easier to use and
don't really need much (if anything) in the way of routine maintenance.

I don't know that model. But I'm prompted to reply by your use of the
phrase "reasonable first choice". Just don't fall into the trap of
buying something that's always going to be a chore to use, then
concluding that cycling in general is a chore.

What kind of shop is this? Is it a specialist bike shop (LBS) that
also stocks enthusiast-equipment with four-figure price tags? Do
some of the customers have equipment that's much-used but well-
maintained? If so that's an indication that they care about cycling.

Thanks for your advice.I have just purchased the bike I mention and the shop (a
friendly well established family shop) is going to give it the buisness ready
for collection hopefully tomorrow.

Of course the next question is on insurance especially PI & 3RD party.The shop
suggested 'Cycleguard'.I am currently looking at it but dont really have any
alternative suggestions.Can you or others recommend a company.ie which is the
biggie out there that you guys use?

As I have said in another reply its a well established shop,which has been at
the location years and tends to deal with locals as well as the thames cycle
crowd.I have just inspected the (now purchased by me) bike and spoke at great
length with the owner who seems to have a steady flow of the duffle coat types
and proper cycle enthusiasts.

Of course now I have all the add ons to contend with ie
lights/helmet/lock/insuration et al.

CTC membership will give you third party insurance. Don't know about
PI. Up to a certain point it may be better to self-insure teh bike
against theft (ie don't but keep money aside in case it is.).

At £259 it/you may well be covered by household insurance.....if you have
that, worth checking anyway.

And, since its a folder, cant you, ummmm, fold it up and take it with you
when you arrive? Into your office or whatever? eg not much need for theft
insurance
