  1. I just lined up all the pills in front of me that I'm going to take
this morning. All are either vitamins or otc cold medicine.

    There's
    glucosamine 2 pills
    calcium/mag 3 pills
    fish oil 2 pill
    multi vitamin 1 pill
    EC 2 pills
    guaifenisen 1 pill
    vitamin C 4 pills

The last two are because I'm getting over a cold. The rest are daily.
Normally, I'd chew up the C's, then just slam all the rest at once with
water. I'm wondering if there's any reason I shouldn't do this, other
than a possible sour stomache I suppose.

Fifteen?!? Fifteen?!? Is that all? BWAHAHAHAHAhahahaha...you are a rank
amateur supplement taker. Us professional pill poppers take 40-50, twice a
    day.

As a very general rule, water solubles should be taken more often, fat
soluble once a day. There are exceptions.

Split up the glucosamine, cal/mag, and C into twice a day.

Actually, to have an effect on a cold, you need way more than 4 (assuming
they're 500-1000mg a piece). More like 10-20 grams a day, in divided doses,
    every couple hours.

I agree, I think he should 40 or 50 of each, right now.

Lets see, I'm close to 20 lbs down in 3-1/2 weeks, over 2" off waist.
Haven't been doing calipers or anything, but the waistline and general
clothing fit is my measure, along with keeping up my lifting poundages,
which don't seem to be dropping. So, I'm pretty happy. But, the goal
is probably another 30 lbs and that still looks like a long ways off.
It's fun digging through the dusty shelves of the closet to get the
pants I stopped wearing because they were too tight the last few years.
By the time I'm done though, it will be a whole new wardrobe.

I've read some of the megadosing comments over the years. But do have
some studies which back up that more moderate doses don't help?

Probably. Don't have them at hand (I am not, after all, John W 🙂

The LEF website lists a bunch of references for vitamin C under the "common
cold" protocol. I'm sure PubMed has a bunch, as well.

Extensive anecdotal evidience is also impressive.

Next time you feel a cold coming on, try this personal experiment, and
report back. Take 500mg of vitamin C every half hour until you have a loose
bowel movement (C is an effective laxative in megadoses). Add up all the
vitamin C you've taken, subtract 500mg, and take that amount every 4 hours.

Well, ... (little church lady voice) wasn't that refreshing?

Now, to get back to the colds thing: What about the nasal spray that
you do right when you feel a cold coming on? I've heard good reports.
Would that be as good/better than downing all the vitamin C? Oh, and
isn't Zinc supposed to be effective against colds as well?

I think the nasal sprays ARE zinc, like Zicam. Nasal zinc and zinc lozenges
seem to have lots of good anecdotal evidence, and they've worked for me.

They work differently than C, so, do them all. They're all cheap. There's
some personal injury lawyers claiming Zicam causes problems, but, I've used
it with no problems, which means absolutely nothing, but, personal injury
lawyers =/= reliable source, so, whatever.

As a very general rule, water solubles should be taken more often,
fat soluble once a day. There are exceptions.

Split up the glucosamine, cal/mag, and C into twice a day.

Actually, to have an effect on a cold, you need way more than 4
    (assuming they're 500-1000mg a piece). More like 10-20 grams a day,
in divided doses, every couple hours.

Hey, how's the diet going? Are you still a Fat [censored], or are you
a lean mean fighting machine yet? Post some numbers Santa.

Lets see, I'm close to 20 lbs down in 3-1/2 weeks, over 2" off waist.
Haven't been doing calipers or anything, but the waistline and general
clothing fit is my measure, along with keeping up my lifting
poundages, which don't seem to be dropping. So, I'm pretty happy.
But, the goal is probably another 30 lbs and that still looks like a
long ways off. It's fun digging through the dusty shelves of the
closet to get the pants I stopped wearing because they were too tight
the last few years. By the time I'm done though, it will be a whole
    new wardrobe.

Hey, that's pretty good! Keep up the good work.

Thanks. The TKD uniform is fitting a bit looser too. I'll probably
need to downsize that as well eventually.

I trained for so many years with the old style uniform where the top crosses
over rather than the pull-over top of today. I've got several of the Adidas
Grandmaster uniforms, but I still prefer my old cotton uniforms. Guess I'm
    just "old school". 🙂
