Was in the right part of town today to stop in at the deli attached to
the Chilean restaurant. Picked up an 8" pie plate of pastel de choclo.
That's a kind of corn casserole with chicken and hardboiled eggs and
black olives. Also got some empanadas. These are beef and raisins and
some other goodies, wrapped in a nice pastry dough and baked. I'll
toss a big salad to go with, and open a bottle of Santa Rita Reserva
cabernet. This is delicious food. I could learn to make the pastel de
choclo, but I know that I'm not good at making the empanada dough. All
in all it's easier and better to get these goodies to go.
Which raises the question, what are the foods that you prefer to bring
home rather than make yourself? -aem
