The announcer sounds like he's [censored] at having to give up his sunday champagne brunch to broadcast
a bike race, the camera placement is awful, we're not seeing or hearing about things -- like Lance
dropping out -- until 5 minutes after they've happened, and there is very little real time
timecheck/tactical info.

Fraser never regains front after Fillmore. He's somehwere between the first and second group at the
beginning of lap 10. Aldag attacks on a little climb near the beginning of lap 100; only Lokkesmoe
covers. JJ rider dropped from second group on 9th lap climb up Fillmore, not seen again. Decanio
still the second group workhorse (1:10). Peloton at
3:35. Grajales looks to wrap up KOM points.

Still Aldag and Lokkesmore after Taylor. Aldag grinding and zig-zagging up Fillmore. Lokkesmore sits
down and pedals right behind; he has a lower gear. Group of 6 picks up fraser... gap at 2 min?
Peloton at > 3 min? No word on Wherry and Grajales.

Lokkesmoe obviously going up Fillmore better than Aldag.... Waits for Aldag. It is all back together
behind at about 2 min.

Aw, poor baby.

Noticably absent this year where the helicopters which followed the race. In '01 and '02 you could
pretty much assume where the leaders where by where the helicopters were.

I didn't see any TV cameras perched on the backs of motorcycles, either, probably a rare skill in
America del Norte. A few bystanders wondered aloud why the Press cars were so far behind any riders.

Since I was there and didn't have a portable TV I missed out on the coverage. I didn't bother with
bringing a radio because I couldn't find any indication of local radio coverage, which is pretty
amazing, considering the number of radio stations in the area. The city closing streets,
mistreatment of motorists, mistreatment of one West Viginia rider (who apparently abandonded and was
heading back to the pit) by a couple SFPD officers, on Bay between Columbus and and Leavenworth.

Freds and general public were a real nuisance today, taking their bikes onto the race course and
often ending up with a few racers trying to navigate around them. Small wonder the officers
patience wore thin and they manhandled the wrong guy. You can't expect the cops to distinguish a
Fred from racers when there's 20 or so cruising down the streat, though packs and fat tires are
pretty much a giveaway.

Even though the race appeared to secure some serious sponsorship from Deutsche Telekom (t-mobile in
the US) I have to wonder if the race will be back next year.

If so I'm debating whether to volunteer again. Second year in a row I got a sucky locale. First year
wasn't too bad, but not being able to move around or even camp out on Taylor Street are kind of a
minus. On the plus side I finally scored some schwag this year, a few bells, some big pink tube for
noise making and the usual volunteers shirt, Telekom pink this time.

Still, a good race and a reasonably good time. Hard to keep up with what was going on though.

Armstrong looked completely cooked, on about 2nd big lap. He looked about the same in '01 before
pulling out, too. Guess it was more about face time and doing some work for the team before
retiring to a warm bath, though I heard someone say he gave a lengthy inverview. Was that before or
after the race?

wished I had gotten to Uros Murn after he rode to 5th... and especially after reading that he was
signed by Hamilton's Phonak team for next year. D'oh!
