Well, my aunt, my cousin and I went to Mentor, OH, to my other
cousin's house for T-day #1. Besides the fact that I like my
stuffing way better and my gravy way better I like to have lots
of leftovers to tide me through until Xmas. So, even when I go
to someone else's house for T-day I always do my own turkey that
same weekend or the next weekend.
So this Saturday I'm making my own T-day dinner.
Orange Pomegranate Compote (?)
Butternut Squash Cream Soup (?)
Turkey
Corn-Sausage Stuffing
Gravy
Mashed Potatoes
Peas
Gram's Dinner Rolls
Boyden Valley Rhubarb Wine (from Vermont)
Pumpkin Pie
So the rolls are already made as I made them to take some
along to my cousin's. I'm thinking of making a butternut
squash soup. I've always refused to eat winter squash but
I recently had some plain pureed butternut squash at a Vermont
Chicken Pie Supper and decided I don't hate *all* winter
squash. (And pumpkin pie doesn't count because I've been
eating it all my life since before I knew it was made with
squash. ;-)) Anyway, I saw a recipe for this squash soup
and it sounded really good. So, I might make it.
Also, I always make Orange Pomegranate Compote for my
first course for T-day but I'm not sure I'll have the energy
to do it this year. (Usually I have T-day on Friday so I have
all day Thursday to do the cleaning and some of the cooking -
now I'll have to do all the cleaning on Friday after work and
all the cooking on Sat.) We'll see how I feel towards the
end of the week.
No, sweet potato casserole unless my aunt has some left from
last week that she might want to bring along. I like it but
it's just not necessary. Also, no cranberry sauce but I will
probably buy some cranberry juice cocktail. I like my cranberries
better in that form anyway. Plus I'll finish the rhubarb wine
that I took to my cousin's. Turns out another cousin came and
brought about 5 bottles of wine and upstages the rhubarb wine.
No one else tried it so I brought the rest home.
Can't wait for Sat. I'm getting hungry just contemplating
it. I enjoyed dinner at my cousin's, but mainly for the
company. My turkey dinner is going to be so much better.
