The Cities Marathon which is mostly run on the new M7 cycleway needs a
    lead rider.
We aren't allowed to have vehicles on the course.
You will have to have a reliable bike and be capable of keeping in front
    of the lead runner.

Plus have the stamina to climb the 90 metres rise over the first 13ks.

You're not going to be paid for this but we can offer two tickets to the
Marathon Eve Pasta Party with Steve Moneghetti as special guest.

So if you're available on the 30th of July just go to my funrun website
and click on the email link in the top right corner and I'll get back to
    you.

I nominate my grandma, she's never ridden a bike, but that should be
    easy enough 🙂
    90m, in 13km? That's MY kinda hill

If the web sites Google took me to don't lie, a marathon is just over
42km, and world record time for a marathon is a few minutes over 2
hours. So average speed would be 21km/h ... a granny gear dawdle.

Its probably harder than it sounds though, because of the need to match
the front runner's speed and not get too far in front. That means you
can't go too fast down hills, and therefore you wouldn't be riding as
economically as a rider would when alone. Would I be correct in saying
that a marathon runner isn't as slowed (as a percentage of max speed)
by an up sloping hill as a cyclist would be?

They're not even going to give you a jersey or something? What a gyp!

  4. It doesn't say what bike you have to ride. Perhaps it'll be a big
three-wheeler pedal cab with signs all over it. Might not be as easy as
    it looks!

Unless your bike is a three wheeler pedal cab, you'd probably be ok 🙂

  6. can the lead runner push you?

Sure, as long as I've got my backup leg-breaking crew, to keep everyone
    else behind me ;-)
