A trailer would give you rather better chances, I think. The
other easy alternative would be to pick up a second hand hack bike
to use with the seat, because any serious off-road requiring full
suspension would be a pretty daft place to go with your moppet on
the back in any case.

I'll second the suggestion of trailer, I started with a child seat and found
the trailer was so much better for my needs. Of course it depends on your
specific needs...

There are child seats which are designed to mount on luggage racks. There
are luggage racks (e.g. from Old Man Mountain) which are designed to
mount on full suspension bikes. So yes, it can be done. I have to say it
sounds to me like a really, really bad idea, and that if you want to
take a child on a child seat you most definitely don't want full
suspension, and vice versa. But it could be done.
