surfboard bike rack

It's not southern California, but lot of folks have them in Capitola near Santa Cruz. Probably get
them at the local surf shops on 41st avenue. I would venture a wild guess that you could find them
in Huntington Beach, but maybe you're only supposed to drive in LA.

I've checked at shops in huntington and newport with no luck. Unfortunately I think you're right
that it seems that everyone is supposed to drive. :-(

I have used some of the Huntington racks and even with a 5'4" kneeboard the effect in cross-winds
is, shall we say, interesting. With a larger board and alongside moving traffic you want to allow
for the tendancy to be sucked out into the road by larger, faster movng vehicles as they pass. I
doubt the more expensive racks that mount the board alongside the bike would really be much
different in that respect, plus giving you some off-center drag which would compromise your turning
ability considerably.

Instead, especially with a larger board, you might want to consider making something like this.

to the hardware store and you pretty much have it. Also allows you to carry other stuff, such as a
wetsuit and so forth. The attachment shown is kinda chancy, but if you have a rear rack you can
definitely make something better with an eyebolt and a shackle.

OK, you've said it several times, so it must be important. Why should it not attach to the frame?
Attaching it to the frame would give it more stability and strength. There are plenty of
quick-release mechanisms around if you just want to be able to take it on or off quickly. The only
reason I can see is if you have some special whoop-de-doo paint job, and then you could easily find
a soft buffer to protect the paint. So, how come?
