The "Dreaded" ACME had a 6/$5.00 Pocono Springs (yeah hokey enough to barf)
gallons of spring water but all they had was the distilled.

I asked Sandy about it and for a raincheck. She just HAD to search the
shelf to see for herself, as if I was blind and then wrote me up a
raincheck.

Certainly. I get them all the time. Sometimes I prefer them, like if
I want to get more of a sale item than I have time for at the moment.

Heh, this wasn't Acme, but the people at this store are *mean* ...
and at this store they are often out of sale items. Come to think of it,
not only were they out of Mentedent, they were out of the sale priced
chicken thighs as well.

Since Albertsons bought the Acme chain however many years ago,
it's so vastly improved that I really don't have problems with them.
On occasion they are out of a sale item, not like it used to be. Not
by a long shot.

The supermarkets I shop at will give you a rain check if they are out of an
advertised item. I ask for one at the Courtesy Counter and they will
cheerfully issue me one. If the item is something I only use now and then
or if it's something I don't really need I don't bother with it.

items why not yank their chain. I don't actually need toothpaste.

Haha! That would be one way around it. I think there are laws
about that here, that you have to have a reasonable supply of whatever
it is you advertise on sale, discontinued items excepted.

But I don't know if that is still true.

background music - and then *finally* a monotone voice that says

We've gotten rain checks when asparagus goes on sale for a great price. I
think that's all we've ever used a rain check for, though. But, yes, they
do exist!

I've gotten rain checks.

Never been an issue.

Some stores will also offer an alternate, similar item.

Almost seems I'm the only one who doesn't. Never got one in
my life. I don't notice anyone using them, either, except for one

I ask for a rain check maybe once or twice a year. Chicken quarters
are occasionally on sale for a very good price (twenty nine or thirty
nine cents a pound for a ten pound bag) and the store is always out of
stock when I get around to shopping. I can't think of any other sale
item that hasn't been there when I looked for it.

Sometimes when they've run out early the store will have a bunch
already made up, so you don't have to wait while they fill it out.

As others have said, sometimes the rainchecks are a good thing. If you
don't need whole chicken at that time, having a raincheck that you can
use in a week or so can be beneficial.

I do too and it's not a problem getting them. Just ask. They won't
know you need one otherwise.
