  1. I have a GT Borrego mountain bike with the Suntour 8-speed Microdrive
drivetrain and shifters. I need to replace the crankset and was
wondering what would be compatable with the current chain and cogs for
the microdrive? Where would be a good source for a new crankset for
this bike. I've tried ebay but never see a microdrive crankset.

    Thanks for any help!

  2. You could probably use any cheap square taper compatible triple with
this. I am using Suntour eight speed shifters with a Ritchey MTB 9
speed crank. The hard part is finding a 94 BCD crank compatible with a
square taper bottom bracket. There are many 94 BCD cranks on EBay but
most (all?) the ones I saw required either ISIS or Shimano new style
    bottom brackets.

  3. Never mind. This one would probably work. The only issue is whether
the current bottom bracket spindle length would work with it. Probably
but you can never be sure til you try it.

You don't need microdrive... anything that is compatible with 8 or 9
speed will work. If you want to keep your bottom bracket then you will
need a crank with a square taper... if you replace both you can get
    anything.

Check out the Shimano and Sugino square-taper offerings:

A local shop can order this stuff too, for a little more money.

  5. If he got a mountain bike crank with a 48 or 46 the MicroDrive front
derailleur might not work very well with it unless he changed that
    derraileur as well.
