Only recently have I started working out to improve my squash game and
it seems to be giving my body some definition as well.
One of the regulars at the gym mentioned protein shakes to bulk up a bit.
What is a good protein shake/product out there? Any suggestions to
products, websites etc would help. I have no idea at all.
Firstly, you should eat real food, but if you need
the convenience of a protein shake:
Hi-Health sells XRated brand protein powder, which, IMO, is
the best tasting, by far.
It's so good I'm tempted to have it assayed to find out if it's
not just chocolate-milk mix.
All the rest have distinct wheaty/buttermilky flavors.
One product (an attempted spinoff of XRated unfortunately)
tasted like vomit. Literally. I couldn't tell if it was
going down or coming up.
But the traditional XRated is great. Especially the
triple-chocolate flavor. It didn't used to be. About 8
years ago it tasted wheaty, too. They must have figured
out the secret to eliminating that (they also added a few
grams of carbs and fat, which may be part of the secret).
If you're trying to gain, mix it with whole milk and blend
in a raw egg. You'll swear you were drinking ice cream.
(But don't try to make ice cream out of it; I tried that,
and it doesn't quite work...)
Use a blender or a stick-blender. Even this stuff has
trouble tasting good if it's not mixed thoroughly, and
a little aeration gives it a nice texture.
Play with the proportions until you like it best.
