  1. Hi all,

I'm having 6 adults over for dinner this weekend and I'll be
ordering some pizzas, plus I'll making a green salad but I
was wondering what else can I make? I was thinking of
grilling some chicken wings & having a fruit platter for
dessert. What do you think? Should I have a cake instead for
dessert? What else should I make to go with the pizza?

    TIA & Take care, SPOONS

I think the salad, chicken wings, and fruit platter sound
great. If you think you need more in the way of side dishes,
you could fry some zucchini (or zucchini blossoms) and/or
eggplant, and provide some marinara sauce for dipping. If
you want a more dessert-like dessert, you could make
    strawberry shortcake or pavlova.

But really, I don't see anything wrong with what you're
    already planning.

How about having a lovely dessert pizza for afterwards?

    Cheers : )

When I have my annual "Pizza Party" I serve spaghetti as a
side dish. I will make three different sauces and people
love to use the pizza slices and crusts to manipulate the
spaghetti and mop up the sauce. Also, I serve Spinach and
Walnut salad with Warm Bacon Dressing. For dessert I serve
cake topped with hot "Chocolate Raspberry "sauce.

I think the cake would be too heavy after pizza. What about
a nice antipasto tray? What you put on the tray would of
course be guided by what types of pizza you intend to serve.
A fruit platter would be nice. You have the salad covered.
Ice cream for dessert or perhaps a strawberry shortcake.

If you want to do wings, I can highly recommend the recipe
for Mahogany Chicken Wings that was posted here some time
ago by Damsel. I made them several times for parties and
they are always a big hit.

Here's a link to the recipe:

    tinyurl.comyvdhb

I make them on an outdoor grill instead of the oven, but
other than that I follow the recipe as given and they are
    absolutely divine!

The fruit platter. Cake is more flour and butter, too
similar to the flour and cheese in the main course pizza. If
you want something fancier than fresh fruit, go with sorbet
or sherbet. Even ice cream wouldn't provide the right
    contrast in ingredients and flavors.

You don't really need anything else. Pizza is a meal in
itself, esp. if you include a salad course. I don't think a
dessert will be necessary, but that's just me.

For a nibblet while awaiting arrival (although I have to say
I'd make the pizza...homemade stuff good and cheap),
something light like jicama peeled and cut into french fry
size spears, doused with lime juice and mild (good; fresh)
chili powder. I'd personally do a very fruity cobbler with
some vanilla ice cream for dessert.
    I.e:from the JOC.

Apple, Peach, or Plum Cake Cockaigne. (this latter word is
JOC code for 'one of our family favourites'😉 I like Italian
plums the best in the recipe. Dough: 1 cup all purp flour,
sifted sift again with 1 teas baking powder
    1/4 teas salt 2 T sugar

    work in 1 1/2-3 T butter

In a measuring cup, break an egg. Beat well, add 1/2 teas
vanilla and then enough milk to make 1/2 C total. Press this
dough into a greased 9 or 10 inch round pan Cover with 4
cups sliced fruit Over this sprinkle 1 cup white or brown
sugar 2 teas cinn (I much prefer 'true cinn' for this) 3 T
melted butter. Bake at 425 F for 25 minutes. I find it takes
longer, or the cake in the middle may be rawish.

An appetizer/snack for munchin on? I like those raisin and
mixed nut dealies. Seems like raisins and salt are made for
each other. Goes well with beer too.

For desert, pizza with fruit topping, like apples with apple
pie spices, or cherries for an cherry pizza pie.

... and for dessert, zabaglione over fresh strawberries.

I prefer to make it using champagne instead of marsala -

    Champagne Sabayon

1 cup sugar 10 egg yolks 1 cup dry champagne

    1. In the top of a double boiler, whisk together sugar and
    egg yolks.
    2. Stir in champagne.
    3. Place over simmering water, whisking constantly, until
    mixture becomes thick and foamy.
    4. Chill about 5 minutes.

    Serve with walnut shortbread cookies.

Practice safe eating - always use condiments

I've told this story before but...

My uncle was frying sausages, then frying his eggs in the
fat from the sausage. I made a comment about it and he
replied, "But I drink red wine every day!"

More recently, a friend has become interested in Chinese
medicine. Her doctor told her she needed to eat more hot
foods (greens, carrots, etc.) and fewer cold foods ("No more
chocolate!" he said.). The other day she bought a bag of
chocolate chip cookies and I made a comment about how they
were cold. She said, "But there's vanilla in them and it
counteracts the chocolate!" Hmm, I don't think it's works
    that way...

Yes. You don't want to serve cake after pizza. There's not
    enough contrast.

A fruit sherbet or frozen yoghurt dessert would be
    even better 🙂
