  1. I hate to admit that I have a vice.
I like sugar, and find that some of my favorite foods contain high levels of
    it.

Summer is back, and one of my favorite summertime drinks are soda and
slurpee-type drinks from the likes if 7-11 and Macs Convenience stores.

Added to my cravings for sugar is the fact that there is a Macs store about
a block from my work, their slush drinks are super cheap, and always
    available....

I actually entirely stopped drinking sugar soda and slurpee drinks about
seven months ago. I opted for aspartame (and I know the evils of that drug
as well) in my soda and coffee, and completely cut out the slurpee drinks.
It was a matter of winter being in season, and an effort on my behalf to eat
    healthier.
Of course, I had a better job then and could afford the extra money to drink
fresh juices and the like each day.
Since then I have lost my job, taken another than pays several hundred
dollars less each month, and found that my budget didnt allow for anything
but the cheapest (and unhealthiest) drinks.

What I have noticed now after a little over a month of going back to slurpee
drinks and sugar soda is my skin.
    It looks terrible.

I wash my face all the time, and I dont generally eat greasy fast foods. My
only vice are the above mention sugar drinks.
Still, my face, the acne... It is embarassing to say the least, however I
dont look absolutely TERRIBLE like some people may.
It is however a few too many blemishes than I would like to have.
I tried a week without these sugar drinks, and watched my acne nearly
    disappear.
After about three days of sugar drinks, it was back to the level it was at
    before stopping the drinks entirely.

This led me to the most obvious conclusion - that SUGAR is the main cause of
acne in myself (and I wager many others out there), and that the people who
manufacturer white, refined SUGAR most likely are aware of this.

When I was younger, I remember learning in school that it wasn't SUGAR
specifically that would cause you acne, but junk food in particular.
"Fair enough" I though. Let's just see what happens if the same week I dont
have any real intake of sugar laden sodas and slurpee's, I DO eat at a few
fast food chains, ordering whatEVER (a burger, fries, its all grease) and
    not a sugar soda.

Nothing. No acne, just a tired feeling after eating all the extra carbs and
fat (I ran alot that week to try and counter act the junk food lol).

I am pretty much convinced now that there is a greater correlation between
acne and sugar than there is between acne and fatty foods.
Dont get me wrong, a person should eat properly, however if they choose to
eat junk food, which is carb heavy and fat heavy as opposed to foods with
massive amounts of processed and refined sugars, they will see fewer
blemishes on their skin in general.

I would conclude that (here are the conspiracy theories) there are lobby
groups and the like in the united states and Canada that have something to
do with sugar being in everything, and with people being told that "junk
food" is what is bad for you.

I thought I would share that.

    Steven.

Figured as much. Hence the disclaimer.

Increased sugars = Increased insulin levels
Increased insulin levels = increased androgen levels and decreased
    SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin)
More free testosterone floating around gives 5-alpha reductase a
chance to create more DHT (Dihydrotestosterone)
Increased DHT = Increased sebum from your sebaceous glands
    Increased sebum = Increased bacteria
    Increased bacteria = Increased Acne

    Thanks US.
And does DHT have anything to do with premature male pattern baldness? The
    term sounds familiar.

Yup. DHT can make your immune system think your hair foliciles are
foreign tissue. This is a bad thing, unless you really like ska.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death
that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it
to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn
the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be
    nothing. Only I will remain.
    Hopefully.

Acne is as much a genetic thing as it is environmental.

If you can find a copy, the book "Suger Blues" it is an interesting
    perspective on the sugar industry.
