Haven't seen it in person, but if I had the space and, more importantly, the
price of it, I'd buy it in a flash!

"The unit has a Sabbath mode for certain religious observances"

Please, what can this be? I'm puzzled more than I can say.

It allows you to open the refrigerator door without triggering the
motor to come on and recool the innards. Also most likely shuts off
the lightbulb so it will not come on when the door is opened.

Sabbath mode is used by Orthodox Jews who do not switch things on and
off from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown+1 hour.

Friend owns a refrigeration business. He says the subzero stuff is just
mediocre quality equipment that is "fancied up" to look like
commercial equipment and look pretty in a McMansion.

Friend said Samsung makes an excellent refrigerator assuming you are not
looking for a huge McMansion style refrigerator.

I don't have a McMansion home, but I prefer a huge McMansion refrigerator.
I have a sub-zero which I will probably have to tear down my kitchen to get
another one installed - doesn't sound pretty, but it's 17 years old now.
Does he have any recommendations for a huge McMansion style?
    Thank you again.

Get out of the house and take a look at today's refrigerators, Dee!
You'll be surprised at the choices. A lot of manufacturers have
mimiced many of the sub zero styles and sell them for substantially
less. Less money doesn't mean less quality either.

With that said, if I had a home with a huge space for such things, I'd
opt for SZs all refrigerator & all freezer placed side by side,
because I've always liked that configuration.

Yes, I like the side-by-side, too.
I'd probably better flip thru the Yellow pages and find something more
extensive than Lowe's. When I go there and browse when DH is shopping, I
never see anything. Probably check out the appliance stores when I'm in
CT. They have more pzzaz there. They like to put big new modern thingies
    in old houses.
    Thanks,
    Dee

Do you have any discounters in your area? You'd be surprised at the
number of high end appliances they sell AND the space they are given
    on the show room floor!

I don't know of any in the Fairfax, VA area, but haven't really looked, but
I do know when I've been appliance shopping with my f-i-l in CT, there's
always a deal going. They really want to move it!

I saw it at Expo (near Boston). Very nice--and VERY expensive.

  16. The different though between Subzero and other brands, is that Subz's
are the only ones with dual refrigeration. Which means food lasts
    longer.

  17. and hunting around the Subz site -- I found a link to the Pro 48 mini
    site: http://www.subzeropro48.com
