  1. My Subway bros are again on the hunt for NRC respectablility and have
descended on Riverside to compete in the Redlands Classic. While
earned outright at San Dimas, they are hell-bent on shedding their
image as the D3 team most likely to get schooled in an ITT by local
    amateur females.

Here's how Subway stacked up against the men in the Prologue:

    45 Cameron Hughes(Aus)Subway 0.36.51
    103 Ryan McKenzie (Can)Subway 1.00.31
    106 David Richter (USA)Subway 1.01.60
    111 Remi McManus (USA)Subway 1.04.86
    121 Todd Cornelius (USA)Subway 1.08.50
    153 Omer Kem (USA)Subway 1.29.02
    189 Robert Yost Jr. (USA)Subway 2.00.98

This is unsatisfactory for me as a fan so I'm moving their results over
to the women's field because I think this is where they really shine.
A short, windy ITT favors maximum wattage - an advantage men naturally
have over women. How do you like these apples?

    1 Cameron Hughes(Aus)Subway 9.26.50
    2 Ryan McKenzie (Can)Subway 9.50.30
    3 David Richter (USA)Subway 9.51.59
    4 Remi McManus (USA)Subway 9.53.85
    5 Todd Cornelius (USA)Subway 9.57.49
6 Christine Thorburn (USA) Webcor Cycling 9.59.09
    7 Kristin Armstrong (USA) T-Mobile Cycling 10.03.58
8 Genevieve Jeanson (Can) The Bicycle Store 10.06.06
    9 Kimberly Baldwin (USA) T-Mobile Cycling 10.08.03
    10 Omer Kem (USA)Subway 10.18.01
    ....
    18 Robert Yost Jr. (USA)Subway 10.49.97

As you can see here out boys would be the Health Net of the women's
field. Subway's testosterone-laden turns of the cranks would have left
their breasted competition behind. Uhh, except for Omer and Yost Jr.
But I heard they were overgeared.

Good grief! Two friggin hours... I can summit Mount Rubidoux faster
    than that walking backwards.

not if you missed your start time by over an hour...

  4. This just in:
Subway makes their first Cyclingnews race report...
Buried in Eddie Monnier's rambling report about
today's Oak Glen Stage at Redlands was the fact
that Subway's Omer "Samurai" Kem, who is currently in a
comfortable 153rd after the prologue (or 10th in the women's
field for those playing along) was in a long break.

Yeah, they fried out there in the wind but Omer was
basking in the sun, off the front in an NRC race, and
getting drenched in Walker's drool. He's arrived my friends.

I do have to discount this development as the race report was
atypically long - in fact about twice the length of a TdF stage report.
And while I don't think Omer would have made one of Maloney's jobs,
we'll take all the Subway press we can get. I bet Jared's noshing a 12
inch toasted Chicken Bacon Ranch right now in celebration.

  7. But remember, around here if you don't win, it doesn't mean anything.
At least that's what I've heard before from others around the way.

So what does that say about all the other teams that didn't get a single
rider anywhere near the top-10? Maybe you need a list:

    Webcor
    Colavita
    Kodak/ Sierra Nevada
    Sea Silver
    Monex
    TIAA-Creff
    McGuire

....and about 10 other teams. Nothing against those teams, but you should
    spread the love.

At least the Subway guys don't think they are "all that". They're just some
modest guys who love to race and have been given an opportunity to race for
a professionally run team, enjoying many of the perks that the "real" pros
do, for the small price of bringing a sponsor to the table.

If busting on someone makes you feel better about yourself, maybe you would
get more satisfaction out of busting on the guys who ARE paid to ride their
bikes and still can't get a single rider in the top-10.

It wasn't an NRC race, but their sprinter Josh Carter (who is out with a
broken collar bone), in his firstrace of the season, beat your buddy Charlie
Dionne (and the rest of his Webcor crew) by a good bike length or two in the
Merced crit a month or so ago. That doesn't suck too much.

Actually, it does suck too much. Merced was a $500 crit paying 10 deep.
So how much is $175 divided by 8, anyway?

That ain't enough to be called a crit PRO just yet.

No mention of 51st stater here.......

    2nd Mike Hoffman Unattached BERKELEY

What Josh heard as he threw up his Cipo victory salute at the line:
"Dude you just beat Charles Dionne!"

What Mike Hoffman really said when Josh threw up his Cipo victory
    salute at the line:
"Dude, it's not like you just beat Charles Dionne"

    Suzzy Subway,

I'm going to have to apologize for Crit Pro and DA74. They are trained
killers who smelled blood, and they virtually raped you. I have shut off
the Bat Signal so they will go back to the cave for now.

But be careful next time you try to upgrade any of the Subway riders to a
Cat 3 in here. You're not giving any of us any cooter, so we'll gut you
just like any other poster if you go outside the program.

    La Cosa Nostra,

    Magilla
