Tim, you like all other fat acceptors seem to have a hard time with the meaning of words. Discrimination and criticism are two entirely different things.
Actually, having a degree in English, I know I have a better ability to distinguish between words than most people, including you. When I talk about discrimination I mean discrimination. I am referring to people and companies not hiring individuals because they are fat. To airlines installing passenger seats in which fat people can not comfortably (and lets's not talk about the airline bathrooms in which one needs to be anorexic to use comfortably) The discrimination facing the obese is easily equal to that faced by the handicapped: and the government passed the American's with Disbilities Act to fight that discrimination. It is time for similar legislation for the obese.
Once you start whining for taxpayers and consumers to accomodate and subsidize your unhealthy lifestyle choices, it becomes my problem too. You have already stated that you choose to be morbidly obese.

I see. Explain to me then why it is unlawful to ask about a persons marital or reproductive status (i.e. children), when conducting a job interview? Clearly, there are innumerable laws against discriminating against people with children with regard to renting/selling homes. Certainly, having, or not having children is totally a lifestyle choice.
It is a well known fact that employers discriminate against overweight people and I am sure that there are legions of anecdotal evidence proving that less qualified people were hired over more qualified people who were overweight. Discrimination exists and should be addressed in the same way as discrimination due to race, age or reglion.

Overweight people are obviously less intelligent than normal people, if they weren't, they would realize they need to lose weight and take action to achieve that goal.

Whoopie Goldberg is an excellent example of that. That fat gal was so obviously less intelligent that two things happened:
(1) she stumped on behalf of John Kerry
(2) she got herself fired for gross lewdness and obscenities
She is obviously less intelligent than normal people.

It's not necessarily linked to a lack of intelligence. Knowing you need to do something about a problem and having the fortitude and will to actually do it are two different things.
As for employers, you better believe they discriminate against morbidly obese employees or potential employees. More health problems, far greater risk for on-the-job injury, etc etc.
Once you start whining for taxpayers and consumers to accomodate and subsidize your unhealthy lifestyle choices, it becomes my problem too. You have already stated that you choose to be morbidly obese.

What a silly comment that is. Where is your proof? Have you seen any credible studies that correlate weight with IQ?

She's fired. Neither her profound fatness nor her blackness could save her, once she decided to turn lewd and offensive.
Get used to it, Demmie. That's free speech in action. Her employer has EVERY RIGHT to fire her lewd, crude black ass after she shot her foul fat mouth off like that.
The REALLY sad part however is that John Kerry and John Edwards grinned from ear to ear when she said it, and appluaded her lewd and crude behavior. Which speaks volumes about today's SICK Democrat Party.

Don't forget that people also have the right to boycott Slim Fast because of this decision. And if Whoopie is so fat, I hardly see her as being a great spokesperson for a diet drink anyway.

Em
Except that there are very few posisitions of employment where significant obesity would not be a definite handicapp. And employer health care expense would be sure to suffer also. Employers can and should take all of this into account. Besides, they will always be curious as to why an individual has failed to be successful in dealing with the problem of their obesity. Because right there is evidence of big time failure. Why hire a failure prone person?

Better to be morbidly obese than morbidly stupid.
You are just like that statement you made...a walking lame excuse.

I have worked in management in business with over 125 employees for the past 15 years. I have come to 2 conclusions based on this:
1. Overweight people are slower and complain more about amount of work that needs to be done. In the last 5 years to fill a certain position we have had 8 obese people and 12 normal sized people. 7 of the 8 obese people could not complete the job taskings and complain constantly about the level of work required. Only 2 of the normal sized people had any issue with the amount of work required.
2. Over the last 6 years, obese people took 39% more sick days than normal sized people.
Why should keep on hiring fat people when its proven the problems they cause?
simple, as fat people become the norm that's all your going to get, you and your company will have to start pressuring your congressman to ban the causes of fatness. Like bad managers that cannot provide motivative work environments that utilise their workers to the max, workers who instead of going back home and pig out because they are so depressed and under appreicitated. Fat is of course in part due to lack of work, provide opportunities for exerice during work, if you put people in pens all day their bodies turn to veal. Buy a pool table and give people a chance to socialise on the job. They will have to move their fat arses around to get to the next shot. Are you one of the fat people? I mean you seem to whine alot and NOT DO YOU OWN JOB!

Sometimes yu just can't lose weight. No matterhow hard I wanted to it was almost impossible - because from 1997 - 2003 I had six surgeries including 3 hip, 2 knee and a hammer toe which prevented me from doing any exercise at all (except a few leg exercises to strengthen muscles after surgery so I could walk). During the same time I went through a nasty divorce. I was very depressed - and when I am depressed I eat - i know that. Now that I can exercise and I am no longer depressed - I have lost about 23 lbs and feel so much better. I am definitely intelligent. My IQ tests prove that - they are at about 160. Mensa minimum is 130. I don't look at overweight people the way I used to. I now know that it isn't always as easy as it looks to lose weight. The biggest boost to achieving your goals and losing weight is to realize that you need to lose weight, you want to lose weight, and you put your mind to it. It is almost like quitting smoking or drinking. Sometimes I felt like I was addicted to certain foods and didn't have the willpower to say no to them. I do now. I WILL eventually reach my goal weight. Diane
