stuck QR skewer

What's stuck? The release lever to the skewer, or the skewer to the axle?

Pop the axle out of the wheel and apply heat and/or PlusGas. If the cam
end doesn't loosen enough to clear the dropouts take it off. Tap the
skewer back and forth to try to free it (don't hit the threaded bit
unless you plan to scrap it, and don't hit it hard enough to bend it).

Use a bigger hammer? :-) (actually quite serious)

If you managed to get teh wheel off the bike then unscreww the non-cam end of the QH and hit directly, there shouldn't be anything stopping it comming out apart from grime/rust etc. If it still won't budge then you should be able to remove the axle with QR in place, you can then use WD40 or any other penetrating oil, or heat. Then grip the axle in a vice and try turning the QR, and then hit it again. If that fails, buy a new one :-)

yeh got the wheel off (replaced cassette) nothing occurred to me when the
skewer didn't fall out at that point, it was when I put the wheel back on I
realised that the skewer wasn't moving. will try wd40 loosol (sp?) or
similar and a bigger hammer. before I try disassembling the (Shimano deore)

You'll have to be careful not to pit the bearings if you whack it with
the axle still in the hub - it's not easy to support the axle when the
cam end of the skewer is still in place.

Try using the QR lever to pull itself out by building up progressive layers
of washers, bits of metal and any old dropouts you can find.

Open-ended spanners are good for this.
