  1. I'm struggling.

My carbohydrate consumption is very very low. I have succeeded in
elimatinating bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc. from my diet to the
point where I don't really even think about these foods any more.

I never eat biscuits (cookies), sweets (candy), puddings, etc.

Instead I eat a lot of meat, fish, green salads, nuts, olive oil, green
    veg, some eggs, etc.

I may eat a very small amount of chocolate - perhaps once every 2 weeks
    - always the good stuff, i.e. 80%+ cocoa solids (and hence pretty low
    in sugar).

I have also recently cut down my alcohol consumption a lot. I'm also
doing a reasonable amount of walking - as much as my schedule allows
    really.

But my weight is stuck at just over 240lbs and has been for a couple of
    months.

Hoping to find inspiration and ideas somewhere...anywhere...?

Am I going to have to be stricter (NO alcohol, etc.) or is there some
    other approach I could try?

    Thanks,
    AS.

    Give up the booze.
    Join a health club.

Sux, but it's your best bet!

The body will burn alcohol in preference to fat.

Facing the same choice here...... :-(

Take a weekend off low carbing but lift weights. Then resume. A week off
    might work better.

Don't eat a lot of anything. Try to eat a bit less than you've been eating.
Pay attention to nuts for they have a lot of calories.

    Watch this.

What is reasonable and why can't you work in more?

Yes. Start a weight lifting program and do some real cardio.

  5. What did you weigh to begin with
and how fast did it come off?

I started at 400 and am now 315.
I've been as high as 440-450.
Based on my genetics and background,
I believe that I'll probably stall
out somewhere in the 220 to 280 range.
By that I mean that somewhere in that
range will be a weight that I will
be able to maintain without having to
become overly obsessive about diet and
exercise in order to force a lower weight.
Perhaps you are in a similar situation.

Also, if you lost weight quickly, you
may have lost a significant amount of
muscle and need to work on building it
back to improve your metabolism and
lose even more fat. Or, maybe you
carry quite a bit of muscle and should
be looking more at body composition
(body fat percentage) than body weight.

  6. Hi Alan. You are doing the right thing as regards your health and it is
not easy, good for you.The problem may be the volume of food you eat.The
amount of food we eat should be relative.Healthy or not you are eating
too much.Doing a physical job as I do twelve hrs a day outside riding
    racehorses I eat once a day.Drink lots of fluid-5'7''-125lbs.Everything
in moderation! A bit of cycling would be good too.

Do you *know* it's very low? Like... have you tracked what you do eat
to see how much carb you're actually getting?

I'd suggest counting first to see where you are before deciding how to
    fix it.

Remember, it's all about keeping your metabolism fired up!

Eating 5 small meals a day, plus routine exercise is a very healthy way to
    burn excess stored fat.
Drinking beer will temporarily stall the fat burning process.

BTW, 240 is not a bad weight maintain. We can't all be skinny teens again!
    ;-)

    Yes, if you're 6'2" 🙂

  10. I'm doing the same thing. But...I've learned calories still do count.
You gotta watch them too. Portion control is the secret, and we all cheat
once in awhile. Have you read the South Beach Diet? My doctor put me on
    it.

I'm 6 feet tall, and at 240 I look and feel good!

There's too many older adults trying to get down to an unrealistic weight
that makes them look ill and gaunt looking.
Think a read recently that have a few pounds doesn't do any harm and some
are actually healthier than their skinny partners.

Nothing worse than seeing middle aged people with really tight jeans and no
    ass! LOL
