Stronglight chainrings

What cranks? TA? It's quite likely a TA Cyclotouriste crankset (what I had back in them days - still
do), and new rings are available. St John Street Cycles have them, and others probably do as well.

You need to know what the chainwheel type is. Sheldon Brown (as usual) has a good bit and there is a
couple of Stronglights listed - sheldonbrown.comgloss bo z.htmlOpen ↗

If you can't get a chainwheel to fit from the standard ranges available you can alway get Highpath
Engineering to make one up for you. Otherwise if its the one I think it is you can get them from

It can be cheaper to replace the whole chainset sometimes.

Probably all that needs to be compatible is the number of holes or "arms" and bolt circle diameter

You're bound to be fine if it's 5-arm and 74, 110 or 130mm.

Try Spa Cycles of Harrogate for Stronglight spares, they advertise in the CTC mag, may even have a
web site now

Spa Cycles in Harrogate are good for Stronglight spares. I have a Stronglight chainset on my tourer
which probably getting on for 20 years old I got some new chainrings from Spa last year.

They have a website which is a waste of hard disk space, but they are very helpful on the phone/in
person and have a good mail order service.

Spa Cycles have a website but when I looked at the weekend they had no stock on. They did however
anser my email query. I imagine you will be able to get suitable rings, my Sugino chainset from 1987
is 110mm PCD for which rings are readily available.

Thanks for the help thus far.... Apologies for not replying straight away...( I can only get on the
old e-mail a couple of times a day).

The chainset has no markings but the spider is 5 arms, and looks like a 86mm PCD. It is a double
chainwheel set... 48/36. The sheldon brown site says these are obsolete..... Settle cycles
(settlecycles.co.ukshopOpen ↗ ) do advertise them as stock and at a tenner a ring it is not
too bad a price....

The chainsets might be obsolete, but Stronglight still make the rings - as you can see.

I'd recommend the 'Zircon' rings, the alloy is harder and they last longer. The cheaper ones are
called 'Dural' or something like that.

- that and the Stronglight 49D had a smallest ring of 26T, whereas the 86 mm Stronglights only go
down to 28.
