I got evicted on Monday night and have to be out of my current place
within the next 60 days because they are planning to sell it! My
stomach has been in knots for 2 days and I had the nervous trots all day
yesterday and part of today. On the plus side, amazingly enough, I
already found another place and it will be a LOT cheaper to live there,
although I'm giving up a lot of amenities that come with a house, such
as a garage, extra space and privacy. It's really too hard on me trying
to take care of a house, anyway, though, so in many, many ways, this is
a GOOD thing. The prospect of having to get rid of about HALF (or MORE)
of all my stuff (I've always been a MAJOR packrat), though is quite
daunting. On the plus (and minus) side, I had to start paying rent on
the new place as of tomorrow and will be paying for BOTH places for most
of September. OTOH, I can make up the cost of the extra month's rent
over the course of about 4 months with the money I'll save on rent,
water, satellite and gardeners. Plus I'll have extra time to move some
things over gradually, and my son can move ahead of me and air it out
well for me. I'll have to sell my washer, dryer and fridge and most of
my small kitchen appliances (I think I can keep my chest freezer,
though) because the new kitchen is pretty tiny. My stomach is just now
starting to unknot. Thank goodness I managed to find a NICE place in a
decent neighborhood (and closer to Trader Joe's :-) so quickly! I'm
mostly looking at this is a GOOD thing and just the kick in the ass that
I needed to get me out in the world and motivated again. It reminds me
of when I was in my 20s and 30s and more involved with everything. I
didn't realize how much I'd missed that feeling. It's kind of similar
to how I didn't realize how TRULY burdensome being fat was for me until
I lost most of the excess.

What does this have to do with low-carb? Not a lot other than the
stress factor which, surprisingly to ME, has resulted in my NOT wanting
to eat -- to the point where I COULDN'T eat for a while. I had to FORCE
myself to eat and could only have a few bites at a time! I also got
very little sleep over the last couple of nights and don't feel so good
right now. DAMN! Good thing I made so much pork/veggie soup (365 oz)
    :-) Over the last 3 days I've only had 1150, 919 and 811 calories/day,
although my carbs are at least fairly consistent at 51, 30 and 42 (I try
to stay around 50/day). I've tried to eat the right things when I DO
eat, and I've succeeded quite well (also a good thing that I make up a
veggie/salad mix a week ahead of time and save them in vacuum-sealed
mason jars), although I could probably use more protein. Between the
lack of food, extra energy being burned via stress, extra physical
activity, and a day or so of the trots (not too painful, at least, just
frequent), I DID manage to get down to 133 lbs :-) Of course, that's
probably mostly due to jettisoned waste products, but it was still nice
to see -- even nicer to see was the scale flickering (reproducible) on
*128* before jumping up to 133 -- it may have been a fleeting, phantom
weight, but the fact that I saw a number in the 120s at ALL was just
DELIGHTFUL to me -- I haven't been in the 120s for about 17 years now --
it's SOOOO close! I was still so shell-shocked that it took a while to
react to the fact that I had SEEN that 128 on the scale :-) And I think
I am starting into PMS, although it's hard to tell, all things
considered, so the 133 may very well be legitimate or even high,
considering I usually GAIN 3-4 lbs with PMS. If they had served me with
papers on, say FRIDAY, they might have gotten a somewhat different
reaction from me than me simply rolling my eyes and saying (with
    disgust): "Oh JESUS!"

Another possibly low-carb aspect was actually a side issue -- on Monday
night I had taken a generic decongestant (containing pseudoephedrine)
because I've been experiencing sticky phlegm in my throat for several
days (more bad timing). I've taken it before and only been slightly
buzzed, but this time my heart was racing like crazy and I was TOTALLY
buzzed by it and feeling quite spacey -- I HATE that feeling (you can
imagine how much FASTER my heart was beating and how dazed I felt after
then being served with eviction papers right about the time the full
effects of the pseudoephedrine were hitting me)! How is this a low-carb
aspect? I think I got so incredibly wired on it because of the 72 lbs
I've lost so far -- my new, smaller size (and keener senses undulled by
excess carbs) may necessitate adjusting the dosages of some things.
Sheesh, I only took ONE pill!

Wow, Saffire - that sounds awful! I'm so glad you've got a new place to live
already! Do please take extra care of yourself during this time.

Do you have time to give more details? It sounds very useful

Sure. I hate making salads on an individual basis -- the veggies that
you DON'T use go soft and wilty and the effort of the chopping each time
is enough to make me not do it more often than not. Then I got a Tilia
FoodSaver. It vacuum seals food in special bags. You can also get an
attachment, however, that seals mason jars. I got the idea from someone
here (I quickly figured out that sealing salads in bags would just crush
the lettuce). I experimented with different veggies and eventually gave
up on the lettuce because it's just about impossible to keep it dry
enough (after washing) to not deteriorate, even in a vacuum-sealed
environment. Besides, I don't really LIKE lettuce all that much. I
eventually settled on 4 basic ingredients -- if I want to add stuff like
cucumbers, tomatoes, etc., I wait until I'm ready to eat it. So I use
about 2-3 lbs of jicama, a bunch of green onions, about 2/3s of a bunch
of celery and 2 cans of black olives. I separate them into 6-7
servings. The jicama is pretty iffy as to whether it's salad-worthy,
because it's hard to tell from the outside whether it will be juicy or
sweet enough to want to eat it raw in a salad. So I started stir-frying
them instead, usually with some Trader Joe wine and cheese sausage, but
sometimes with chicken or shrimp or whatever. I add Trader Joe Punjab
Spinach Sauce and some parmesan or cheddar cheese. Sometimes I add
tomato sauce or some other flavoring instead.

I usually get 1.5-2 servings out of each jar once the extra ingredients
are added. It's tasty, very filling, and has lots of fiber. Works for
    ME!

BTW, it turns out I DID have PMS :-)

An apt. It's been too hard on me trying to take care of a house and

Thanks! I weigh every day. I think people tend to think I weigh less
than I do because of an optical illusion -- my waist is about 2 sizes
smaller, proportionally, than my hips, which gives the illusion of
having a very small waist when, in reality, it's more due to wide hips.
The current photo I have up is from when I weight 143 lbs, so I DO look

  13. hang in there Sapphire....I'm going through a divorce and had to get a
