Right now www.streetmap.co.uk is showing OS 1:50k maps once again, including the old trick of
putting z=4 in the url to get a 5x5 tile. Anyone know if this is going to last? Have they sorted out
their licensing issues with the OS?

It never actually went away you just had to ask for it.
If you put in an OS grid ref XX123456 you get zoom level one (3x3 street) map and if you do a search
by placename you get the zoom level 5 (3x3 road) map by default.

They are having to lump it and pay the OS per download so they are trying to minimise the downloads
by not telling anybody about the 50k mapping. Clicking the + and - zoom buttons jumps straight from
the road map to the street map.

It's not working for me right now. I used your link, entered Kinder Scout and got the z=3 url at the
z=5 scale. Manually changing to z=4 had no effect.
They did promise me something would be done, but it's not obvious to me.
Am I being dense?
Have fun, Paul

No need to change the url these days - there's a link just below each map labelled "Bigger map"
which gets you the 5x5 tile :-)

What about an URL for screen grab utility My previous item of software that did the trick
wonderfully went up the river when the HD suffered a catastrophic failure.

It's all started to work for me on the 50K scales now. I guess it was a gradual roll out of the maps
rather than the whole country in one go.
Have fun, Paul
and to answer my own stupid remark if I change 3&sv to 4&sv I get a 5 x 5 square.

I don't want to get pedantic, but you are actually changing z=3 to z=4 to change the zoom from
level 3 to 4.
It's started working for me now too, so I'm not sure why I had problems yesterday after some people
got it working. Probably they put area by area live and I happened to try Kinder Scout before it had
gone live.
