What's wrong with normal scroll bars? Perhaps I'm just old fashioned.

I think it is of limited interest to users without flash enabled
browsers which makes it a pile of poo IMO

ok just looked at it in another browser. Now I think that the
navigation is not intuitive, unneccessarily gimicky and acts as a
barrier to the content.

This site would be more than enough to put me off them. Perhaps using
flash only wasn't such a bad plan as I think their best bet is to avoid
having potential customers see the site.

Impressively the link for the site designer brings up a page that is
significantly worse than this site

While the bikes and stuff in there is good to look at, and presumably use,
the presentation is so 'flashy' and changeable that it's awkward, and
certainly not intuitive, to move around. Too much going on everywhere,
they're trying to be too clever by a long way.

Ack, yet another web site where the designers give the impression of "Look what
I can do that's really, really flash! Aren't I clever!" rather than getting a
page to load with information. I *loathe* sites where you have to wait for a
download to get to information. Not everyone has broadband... There's an old
design principle which too many seem to forget - KISS as in Keep It Simple,
Stupid! Having to wait for a download means it's not a site I'd willingly
visit, i.e. potential lost sales to Riverside.

It's looks very flash, but the pretty bits (photos) take up just 3" of
screen and the rest is just boring or part of the navigation console (apart
from the huge border around the edge that does nothing).

Because it's flash my browser buttons don't let me go back and forwards,
and I can't cut and paste individual pages. If I was on dial-up I wouldn't
even bother waiting for it to load. Unfortunately for them that's about
half their customers isn't it?

I hope they didn't pay too much for that. It's up there with the worst
sites I've ever seen - didn't work in Opera or Firefox in Debian, worked
after a fashion in Konqueror, but wasn't worth the wait.

Works fine in Firefox, so I suspect it's your flash setup being out of date/wrong.

That said, I wouldn't bother fixing it for this site.

All I saw was three horizontal bands. My browser has Flash Animations turned
off.

It will never appear in a search engine because there is no content apart
from the Flash.

Perhaps they should stick to making (or selling, or whatever they do with
them) bikes.

Let's see... my usual browser is Mox 1.4 on Solaris/SPARC, but that
isn't set up with all the latest and "greatest" plugins, so I got a
background image and, errrr, that's it. So I didn't think very much of
that.

Did get it rolling on Firefox 1.0PR on an XP PC, where it proved pretty
painful inna style over substance stylee.

Back to the PHP manual I go!
