Strange things when walking (2).....

A number of stone walls have holes in them so sheep can get through.
Fairly obviously one or more sheep have been struck by lightning, caught
fire, and left sooty marks on the hole side as they ran through in a
paniced state. A careful walker will always carry a jar of mint sauce
in case he come across a lightning char-grilled sheep. :-)

Usually they are rectangular though, and often have a lintel.

So we've drawn a blank on that one then?!

Definitely not man-made, and as the holes had a diameter of about 1.5m,
they'd have to be very fat sheep!

This one has confounded me for some years now, and looks like it's set to
continue to do so.

Burning lorry tyres rolling downhill at speed are a fun thing for
imaginative young children to play with but sadly kids today are too lazy to
get them up any hills in the first place and seem to prefer torching cars
instead so probably not that.

I'm sticking with the ball lightning theory, whatever it was it must've had
huge force as the holes were so clean and rounded. Unless it was a prank
pulled by locals to confuse us darn tourists (I heard that locals in the
Scilly Isles captured and painted a sparrow so as to confuse the twitchers,
so I know these things happen...!)
